OK,

here is the list of inputs. My system is german, therefore I list the german names and try to translate them.

1. Windows Aufnahme L - Windows Recording L
2. Windows Aufnahme R - Windows Recording R
3. Mix VL - Mix FL
4. Mix VR - Mix FR
5. Mix HL - Mix BL
6. Mix HR - Mix BR
7. Mix VM - Mix Center
8. Mix LFE
9. Mix HM oder SL - Mix Back Center or Surround Left
10. Mix HM oder SR - Mix Back Center or Surround Right

I hope you understand my translations.
The output is only stereo.
My Soundcard is only named Creative ASIO.

I made a preset for the X-Fi. Paste it in the Presets.xml file.

Code:

Did you test AC3 passthru successfully with your soundcard by playing a DVD and setting the audio output to SPDIF?

If you have an AC3 light on your receiver, does it light up when you start the encoding even thought it stays silent?

Open the ASIO Control Panel and try other latencies. A latency that is too high won't work.

I always pass DD and DTS to my Denon AVR 2105.
Without any problems.

If I choose DirectSound, my Reciever says, there is a Dolby D Signal, but the control LED flickers -> The signal is interrupted.
If I turn up volume on the Reciever I can her a pounding sound from the SW.
When I turn off encoding there is also no sound anymore until I close the encoder completely.

If I use WaveOut, I hear nothing, until I reduce the ASIO Latency under 40ms.
Then my Reciever says, there is a DD signal an the LED flickers, the smaller I adjust the latency , the more slowly flickers the LED.
And I hear the same sound like by using DirectSound, fast or slowly.

Is there a setting in the audio drivers you use to select the frequency of ASIO?. It will only work if ASIO is working at 48 kHz.

There are three mode in the drivers (gaming, entertainment and audio creation. Try them all. Maybe it only works in one or two of them.

ASIO is only fully supported by Audio Creation mode.

Here is the complete list of ASIO Inputs in "Audio Creation"-mode: (nothing changed in the suround channels)

1. Windows Aufnahme L - Windows Recording L
2. Windows Aufnahme R - Windows Recording R
3. Mix VL - Mix FL
4. Mix VR - Mix FR
5. Mix HL - Mix BL
6. Mix HR - Mix BR
7. Mix VM - Mix Center
8. Mix LFE
9. Mix HM oder SL - Mix Back Center or Surround Left
10. Mix HM oder SR - Mix Back Center or Surround Right
11. Line-In /Mic L
12. Line-In /Mic R
13. Digital-In L
14. Digital-In R
15. Line-In 2/ Mic 2 L
16. Line-In 2 /mic 2 R
17. Auxiliary 2 L
18. Auxiliary 2 R
19. Line-In 3/Hi-Z L
20. Line-In 3/Hi-Z R
21. SPDIF-In L
22. SPDIF-In R

There are also 15 different outputs, which are each stereo.

In AC-mode I set the master samplerate to 48kHz.
If I now start encoding the DD-LED glows constanly and I can hear the music I´m playing, but the sound is very disturbed. (Only on WaveOut, DirectSound does not work)

Always use the highest bitrate (640000)
Always use Realtime priority.
In the ASIO settings, if you can choose between 16 bit and 24 bit, choose 16 bit.

If it still does not work, I don't have other ideas. Can you please describe what you mean by disturbed (or record and send this sound to me).

I changed the latency down to 1ms and switched on bit matched mode.
I reach the best quality with a setting of 20ms.

The sound is very rushed, like the sound of a radio.
The music I´m playing is very quiet in the background.

Recording is not possible, the digital-out is also my mic-in. I have to choose by driver.

In the end, it may be a problem with redocneXk or the X-Fi or a combination of both.
The rate at which the program gives the AC3 stream to the soundcard is not totally stable and the X-Fi may be more sensitive to this than Audigy cards. That's not certain but it's a posibility. Apart from that, I don't know what could be the problem.

I'll write a test version with a new algorithm that gives a more stable rate. Give me a few days and I'll have it ready. If it does not solve the problem, it should at least help a little.

I finally got it working on the X-Fi with the help of MiG[Anubis. I'll let him do more testing to make sure there are not any issues and then I'll release a new version.

He did not find any settings in the Creative ASIO drivers to set the ASIO sample type to 16 bit so his card is working at 24 bit. The program now detects if the ASIO buffers contain 16 bit or 24 bit. If they contain 16 bit, it works the same as before. If they contain 24 bit, the program does a quick conversion from 24 bit to 16 bit before working as before. This is necessary because AC3 encoding only works on 16 bit.

In summary, I added 24 bit support by converting from 24 bit to 16 bit in software.

There is this CTXFISPI.EXE (which is normally running background (shows in Task manager) if not disabled/removed) which have functions for to get and set bit depth. ctxfispi.exe is a process installed alongside Creative Audio hardware and provides additional configuration options for these devices.

Since I don't have X-Fi card here, I can't tell, if all of these functions works w/ ASIO mode too, and also, what I've tried these functions/subroutines w/ VBScripting enviroment, ctxfispi.exe file is needed to be renamed as CT20kSpi.exe to get functions/subroutines into use (though not working because no X-Fi installed).

Also, I do not know if you can use any of these functions/subroutines w/ programming language you're using there but , if you can, then maybe you can call subroutine to change the bit depth instead of dithering operation ...

These are from Object Browser :

Library CT20kSpiLib
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\CTXFISPI.EXE
CT20kSpi 1.0 Type Library

Class PCMProcessingSettings

Sub EnumBitDepth(dwIndex As <Unsupported variant type>, pBitDepth As <Unsupported variant type>)
Sub GetBitDepth(pBitDepth As <Unsupported variant type>)
Sub SetBitDepth(dwBitDepth As <Unsupported variant type>)

Version 2.05 released.

The version 2.04 was made some time ago but it was not released publicly because it was too unstable. This version works much better.

It should support the X-Fi.

An X-Fi user just reported to me that it does not work properly for him. The dolby digital light on his receiver flickers on and off. That means that for now, the version 1.06 works better than the version 2.05.

I would like to get reports from others to tell me if it works or not for them. You should try the version 1.06 first and get it working. Once it works, try the version 2.05.

I did some tests. It's the mixer that is the cause of the stuttering. It's inefficiently coded and it's taking too much time too execute, causing stutter. I'll see what I can do but for now I suggest to use the console version.

Hi Tril,
Same result here with X-Fi Xtrememusic, receiver says Dolby D, led blinks, some clipping, no sound at all. This with version 2.5.

Versions 1.8 and 1.6 didn't work here. The window closes itself after giving a series of text messages that I'm not able to read not to interact.

I tried in Audio Creation and entertainment mode, tweaking different settings. I tried with Creative Asio, Asio Full Duplex and Multimedia Asio, cheked latencies with Asio caps, coincidence of bits, changing the values on Matrix... No way.

I'm using regularly Spdif to hear AC3 music encoded with Eright software Super (it uses ffmpeg). Before, I tried many ways to 5.1 music (Srs, Foobar2000 Channel mixer and freesurround, Creative CMSS and Neo, Dolby Prologic) with no satisfaction. AC3 Dolby Digital is the best surround solution. So please keep trying with redocnexK implementation for X-Fi, it would be soooo great!!

Thanks and all the best,
Displicente

Also problems with x-fi

I also have trouble getting my x-fi to work. Tried the same stuff, back and forwards , but no luck. Is there any progress on new versions? Sorry to seem like a nag, but I really like the project and I'm looking forward for any updates in the future. Great things can come of this small but fantastic piece of software

Best of luck!

Nice job you did here! It's the first AC3 encoder that works decently. Not perfect yet
I have an Audigy2ZS on a Core2Duo system.
Tested your software (ver 2.05) and worked with the Audigy2ZS ASIO and wave out. Creative Console set on SPDIF out (instead of default internal decoding).
In "Settlers5" and "JustCause" worked good (I set bitrate @ 384kbps, ASIO latency @ 20ms).
In "STALKER" it just reboots the PC .

Another program I made, Velbac reuses some of the code of redocneXk and it has the same crash problem with some specific games. Maybe these games also use ASIO, I have no idea.

I know that it crashes with :

My first step would be to Google for the missing dll file and download it into your system 32 directory. But that's just me, others might have a better solution.

How is the 1/0 mono 96Kbps performance? You suggest use 640k, so I wonder before I buy an X-Fi card to test.

hmm

hello,

i was looking/searching a solution for my optical/digital surround problem.

i have the x-fi fatal1ty fps soundcard and a surround receiver.
i've connected my soundcard to the receiver via optical toslink cable.

my receiver switches to dolbydigital or dts as soon as i watch a dvd on my pc.
when i use gaming mode and use the surround of eax in games via optical, the output is only on 3 speakers, the front speakers.

that's because the X-Fi won't stream all the infos via digital anymore.
so i searched for a realtime ac3 encoder and found this.

basicly the idea is kickass, though it doesn't work for me.

with the dos version the sound stutters sometimes, with the gui version i don't get any sound at all. the asio samplerate is set to 48khz and 10ms.

other problem is. now where i have an ac3 encoder i still don't get no sounds from my rear speakers .. only the front speakers are giving out the sound.

what am i doing wrong? .. i wanted to play a game in surround mode over my receiver .. via optical digital connection ..

Your problem is simple to solve - just connect your X-Fi to your Receiver, with analog cables.

Here's an update on the project. I restarted working on it. I'm going to fix the stuttering issue with the presets.

I also plan on adding a new setting only for the kX drivers. This will activate the transmission of the AC3 stream through ASIO instead of WaveOut or DirectSound. It will reduce the latency (I would guess around 2 to 30 ms faster). Eugene made some changes to the kX drivers SDK to make it possible for an external program to ask the drivers to changes some settings to accept AC3 through ASIO. My code for this is not written yet but when it is, I'll need someone with the kX drivers to do some testing for me because I can't test it (I don't have an external AC3 decoder).

Hello, I installed the xK project on my SB0102 but whenever i open the gui recocnexk and try to change anything in the drop down menu's, my whole computer just locks up and i have to reboot. i am running windows xp. i was using creatives ac3 passthru with sucess earlier, but i needed some asio drivers for this to work, so i originally installed ASIO4ALL, but then but on xk project instead, figuring it would be nice to get rid of creatives drivers anyway. well besides ac3 passthru not working for my card anymore, recocnexk has been crashing my computer every time i try to change an option. would i have better luck with creatives drivers and ASIO4ALL?

redocneXk on X-Fi XtremeMusic + Vista x64

I'm trying to get this to work with no luck.
I tried all the configurations (Driver Presets / waveout / DirectSound) but my reciever doesn't show AC3 signal input using both GUI version and command line version.
is there any special settings that I need to configure?
ASIO is set to 48k, tried all kinds of latencies.
default playback device set to SPDIF.
default recording device set to "What You Hear".

EEK!

This is absolutely awsome..

Unfortunately I'm getting a bit of stutter with the flashing LED's on my decoder. I'm using Creative drivers with my Audigy 2.

I tried the console version and as well as stutter it sounds very distorted.

I have tried changing ASIO latency between 2ms and 40ms and adjusted # buffers @ start, and I always get AC3 sound coming through but with the stutter...

Is this likely to work better with the Xk drivers?

Cheers,
Paul
