Changing Stereo 5.1 sound?
Hi
Perhaps this is a stupid question, but... What is the right way to get a front stereo , rear stereo and redirected low frecuencies to the subwoofer when a stereo mp3 is listened, and at the same time, get a surronded 5.1 sound when a dvd or game is played? Seems to be the setup of 5.1 on mixer, gives the same sound for real surround and stereo...or that's my ears feel, at least. Is necessary to change from surround ON to COPY every time, or is possible make a setup that do it for you? Thanks |

One possibility might be to load Surrounder+ twice.
MP3 (and normal sounds) sound should use FXBus(0/1), while games (3D Sound) and DVD's should use FxBus(4/5/6/7/8/9), so you could probably load 2 instances of Surrounder+, each with its own settings to do it. i.e. Something like the following picture: http://i1.tinypic.com/zisky0.gif In the above picture, the top instance of Surrounder+ would be set for use with MP3's, etc, while the bottom instance would be set for use with games/DVD, etc. Of course doing this uses more resources, and thus you may not be able to use the same effects/plugins as you would normally, so it might be better to just swap configurations as you are doing now. Also there are other custom DSP configurations that you could use that might use less resources. It is best to read the available guides (and search the forum) to learn how the DSP works, so that you can create your own configurations to suit your needs. Yes, i think i have an idea of how DSP must work... but over 3d sound and surrounder i haven't yet
... so your info about the use of dvd's FXbus is specially apreciated. Thanks ![]() I see in that picture that the first surrounder have only the two first input connected, but not the others, that are connected on the second surrounder... Is not possible to do it with only one surrounder??? ![]() Well, i think i will do any configurations with the DSP, to see if i can get what i want... Thanks for your help, i think really will be usefull for me.

As far as DVD playback and the FxBus goes, that actually depends on the settings in the DVD software, but generally, directional sounds use FxBus(4/5/6/7/8/9), and you mentioned using a surround setup.
The picture was just one example, that allows you to use two different settings at the same time for different audio sources, etc. Of course it is possible to do it with only one instance of Surrounder, depending on your specifics needs. i.e. You could do the following: xrouting stereo_l/stereo_R connected to a Stereo Mix plugin AND Surrounder's top 2 inputs. Surrounder's Rear outputs connected to the second pair of inputs of the Stereo Mix plugin. Stereo Mix's output connected to the rear speakers connections on epilog. That will basically copy any stereo sources to front and rear, while sending directional audio to the individual speakers. Again there are many possibilities depending on the desired result, once you understand where the signals originate in the DSP (see the info on kX Router in kX Help), and the DSP routing, etc. you will be able to figure out how to do it all yourself. For info on what is happening inside of the xrouting plugin, see the following thread: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/effects-dsp/79582-xrouting-info.html |
