No EAX???

Man,

I just downloaded this and tried it!!! Oh my god it's awesome!!!! The sound is amazing!!!
I love the progie!!! I'm driving to an Audigy Sound card, Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Speakers and...
well...I love'em!!!

BUT...

I then played Unreal 2 and lo and behold. NO more voice and sound effects!!! I had to disable EAX (unacceptable) for me.
So I flushed them...

Why oh why doesn't the KX drivers support EAX (no sourround)???? I'm freakin' out!!!

It hurts me to get rid of them...but without EAX forget it!!!!

I think EAX is mainly for gaming and KX is targeted mainly to audio recording so EAX is probably not a priority for KX programmers.

System Specs

Sorry, that's the way it is.
FAQ:

Q. Are the kX drivers aimed at musicians or gamers or both?

A. At present the kX driver is aimed primarily at musicians, and especially those who wish to get the most out of their soundcards (and who have traditionally been left behind by the big soundcard manufacturers, who prefer to concentrate their efforts on the more lucrative gamers market). Features designed specifically for gamers will however be added as development of the drivers continues.

Q. Why should I use the kX driver and not the drivers that came with my soundcard? What are the advantages of kX driver?

A. The kX driver may or may not suit your own particular needs, although you have little to lose by giving it a try. The kX driver is part of an independent development project, and already offers most if not all of the same features included in the original manufacturers' drivers. In fact, the kX driver set is continually being updated and improved, with frequent driver and supporting application releases. Advantages of kX driver:
-- general advantages
1. software takes less space
2. the mixer is skinnable
3. the API is open -- everybody can write its own effects and plugins (there is SDK, documentation and sample code)
4. the API also enables writing custom mixers and other software
-- better functionality
1. better DSP support [hardware-accelerated sound effects]
2. better signal routing
3. full control over your sound hardware (without artificial limitations)
-- better ASIO support
1. ASIO is supported for all the 10k1 & 10k2-based boards [Creative doesn't support ASIO for Live! cards (officially)]
2. ASIOv2 based hosts are fully supported
-- better MIDI support
1. kX VSTi - the way to control effects via MIDI
2. extended MIDI CC support
3. both SoundFont 2.1 & AWE NRPN support [not all Creative drivers do that]

Issues:
General:
EAX/EAX2.0/EAX3.0 not fully supported.

RIV@NVX,

Thanks for your response...I'm a little embarrassed that I hadn't noticed that in the FAQ

I want to use these drivers soooooooo bad! But! I want my surround sound!
My question is then:
Can I get surround sound with the KX driver???
I really want surround sound features...Is there any way for this?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,

Surround sound - yes.

Then maybe you should do something like this (just one of the pooppilion possible variations):

1. Open kX DSP (reset it to default if it is not).

2. Load "ProLogica" module ("add effect/plugin"->"surround")

3. Connect outputs of "10 Band EQ" to inputs of the "Prologica"
(lot->Lt, rot->Rt)

4. Connect outputs of "Prologica" to "Epilog" inputs in following order:
L -> out0
R -> out1
Ls -> out8
Rs -> out9
C -> out17

This gives you an "surround" when listening to stereo sounds.

As for adding subwoofer to above setup you can do like this:

5. Load "Summ" plugin.
6. Connect outputs of "10 Band EQ" to any inputs of the "summ" (without disconnecting eq from prologica!)
7. Load "EQ Lowpass"
8. Connect output of "summ" to first input of "eq lowpass"
9. Set "EQ Lowpass"'s Freq to 120Hz and width to minimum (via "tweak")... (you can modify them later according to your taste)
10. Connect first output of lowpass to epilog's input "out18"

That will copy bass sounds from left/right into subwoofer (but not "move/redirect" them...)

Something like that...
(yep, crazy thingy , phhh)

Be carefull,

/Max
And maybe you will need this too:

Reverting phase how-to
Guide to revert phase of a pair of speakers:

1. Double click KX mixer (tray)
2. Open up KX Dsp screen (button)
3. Right click on Kx Dsp screen, and go ADD EFFECT / PLUGIN > BASIC > PHASE
4. In the pop-up window click on V (ok)
5. In the ROUTING element of Kx dsp screen, find the first two connectors in the right (RO_front L and RO_front R)
6. Click on one of them and connect it to the PHASE plugin (upper left side input). Do the same with the other one (the other input in the left side).
7. Pull a cable from the upper right connector (output) of PHASE plugin and connect it to the input of the EQ (you may need to disconnect the cables which are there), if you are using EQ, or connect them directly to the first input on the EPILOG element. Take another cable from the second connector of PHASE plugin and connect it to the second input on the EPILOG element (or in the EQ if you are using one).
8. You are done! Instant bass response!

Hope that's easy enough...
