KX & Cool edit

Hey all.
I'm using an Audigy card with a mic connected (via a pre-amp, so it's on aux 2 in) and need to record some vocals in cool edit.
What settings do I need, anybody?

Thanks!

On the "Recording" page of kxmixer, make sure the "Master Recording Level" slider is at 100% (and not muted), and set the "AUX2 Recording Level" slider to 0 db (make sure it is not muted). I think (I do not have an AUX2 input, so I cannot test it) that should do it.

On the Live drive 2 (not sure yours is a '2' or not, but I think so ??) the RCA audio input is 'AUX2' while the 1/4" jack is 'Line Mic 2' (which has the pre-amp/input level knob) .. If so.... replace 'AUX 2' above with 'Line / Mic 2'. .??.

I think so too, but still I get nothing, so maybe it's a setting in cool edit?

Are you using the default DSP configuration?
Try using Windows Sound Recorder and see if you can record with that.

BTW: You will not hear what you are recording (while recording) with that setup, but you should hear it when you play it back.

All I hear are the sounds of silence

You did not answer my question about your DSP config.

In any case, lets make sure that you are using the right input.
In the DSP window, connect a PEAK plugin to the AUX2 pins of prolog (the bottom two pins I believe), then unmute the AUX2 slider on the 'Ins and Outs' page of kxmixer, speak into the MIC, and see if you see movement on the Peak plugin's meter as you talk.

You did not see anything on the peak meter?
Are you sure you are connected to AUX2 and not MIC2 (i.e. Maddogg6's post)?
Are you sure your pre-amp is working?

The peak meter is moving about somewhere around -70 dB (not sure where these levels come from), but not responding to input. And yes, the pre-amp is working, and it's a line signal so I have it connected to aux2

Hmm, I do not know what to tell you. It sounds like you are not connected to AUX2. If you can see the noise floor, then I would guess that the slider is not muted (just make sure the volume is at 0dB). Try unmuting the MIC2 slider (for the heck of it), and connect another peak plugin to those pins on prolog, and see if you see anything different on that peak meter.

BTW: What version of kX are you using, and what is the specific model number of your sound card (i.e. SB0xxx).

In the device order pages for record and play make sure HQ is NOT enabled, as a matter of fact leave only 0/1 in both cases.

...After you past that careful fiddling with device properties will enable 24bit/float recording.

be sure to choose the audigy for recording in cooledit/options/settings/devices/waveformrecord
choose something like 'kx 0/1': in case you also have an onboard soundcard the onboard device 'soundmax' or so will probably be default in cooledit

IF you do not see the signal on the Peak plugin (when doing as I stated in this post), than you are never going to be able to record it, as the signal is not present (in the DSP).

You need to troubleshoot to find out why you are not getting a signal on the Peak plugin under that scenario. Verify the connections from your Live Drive to the sound card, etc. Verify that your Pre-AMP is working correctly. Verify that the MIC is working correctly. Verify that all cabling is good, etc. Try using the inputs on the back of the card (Line In, etc), instead of those on the Live Drive, to help verify the functionality of the MIC and Pre-AMP, etc.

Again, until you can get the MIC signal into the DSP, you are not going to be able to record it.
