SBLive and Bass

Well, I thought I'd try these drivers out, and there is one problem... no bass!

Here's the specs from the help-about:

----Hardware / Software configuration---------------
Driver Name:kX Audio Driver (Debug)
Driver Date: Feb 9 2003 06:01:25
Driver Version: 5.10.00.3529 - debug
DB Name:LiveBay0x
SB0060 5.1 [ffe0]
PCI Information:
Device: 21102 Subsys: 80611102 ChipRev: 7
Card has MPU device
Card model is '5.1'
Card HAS AC97 codec
Codec name: SigmaTel STAC9708
3D Extension: SigmaTel 3D Enhancement
Codec is 2.0 compliant
Capabilities[6940] :
DAC resolutions : -16-bit- -18-bit-
ADC resolutions : -16-bit- -18-bit-
Ext Capabilities [80]: -PCM surround DAC-
Port: ffe0 Irq: 12
Playback buffer: 20a0
Record buffer: 4000
Number of AC3 buffers: 8
Tank memory: 256 kb
----------------------------------------------------

I tried using the methods in the thread "The Center and subwoofer channel doesn't work..." but they didn't work (probably because my model is SB0060).

Hm, whats wrong ? I'll be glad to help out on any expiriments and such.

*edit* I checked the option "Route headphoens to Center/Subwoofer" and I now have bass, BUT I have to turn up the bass on my subwoofer all the way which I didnt have to do before with Creative's drivers. It doesn't sound bad, it just doesn't sound right.

I'm using the same card, i do have center and sub output, mind you, the normal dsp routing does not route anything to center and sub by default (why not btw?) you can check that by attaching a peak meter...

what I do seem to notice is that sub and center are swapped... (I've had my share of difficulties with it too, my conclusion is, all chans do work, but weird :-)

I'm connected 5.1 digitally btw, and to get the "headphones" chan I use a simple soundcard with a digital cd connector (I don't have a livedrive) on the AUD_EXP connector

Then maybe you should do something like this (just one of the pooppilion possible variations):

1. Open kX DSP (reset it to default if it is not).

2. Load "ProLogica" module ("add effect/plugin"->"surround")

3. Connect outputs of "10 Band EQ" to inputs of the "Prologica"
(lot->Lt, rot->Rt)

4. Connect outputs of "Prologica" to "Epilog" inputs in following order:
L -> out0
R -> out1
Ls -> out8
Rs -> out9
C -> out17

This gives you an "surround" when listening to stereo sounds.

As for adding subwoofer to above setup you can do like this:

5. Load "Summ" plugin.
6. Connect outputs of "10 Band EQ" to any inputs of the "summ" (without disconnecting eq from prologica!)
7. Load "EQ Lowpass"
8. Connect output of "summ" to first input of "eq lowpass"
9. Set "EQ Lowpass"'s Freq to 120Hz and width to minimum (via "tweak")... (you can modify them later according to your taste)
10. Connect first output of lowpass to epilog's input "out18"

That will copy bass sounds from left/right into subwoofer (but not "move/redirect" them...)

Something like that...
(yep, crazy thingy , phhh)

Be carefull,

/Max
And maybe you will need this too:

Reverting phase how-to
Guide to revert phase of a pair of speakers:

1. Double click KX mixer (tray)
2. Open up KX Dsp screen (button)
3. Right click on Kx Dsp screen, and go ADD EFFECT / PLUGIN > BASIC > PHASE
4. In the pop-up window click on V (ok)
5. In the ROUTING element of Kx dsp screen, find the first two connectors in the right (RO_front L and RO_front R)
6. Click on one of them and connect it to the PHASE plugin (upper left side input). Do the same with the other one (the other input in the left side).
7. Pull a cable from the upper right connector (output) of PHASE plugin and connect it to the input of the EQ (you may need to disconnect the cables which are there), if you are using EQ, or connect them directly to the first input on the EPILOG element. Take another cable from the second connector of PHASE plugin and connect it to the second input on the EPILOG element (or in the EQ if you are using one).
8. You are done! Instant bass response!

Hope that's easy enough...

Yes, get rid of things like the EQ or chorus or reverb... You can add them back later if you wish. Remember that you can save different profiles through KX mixer.
