Input/Output Cables for sb0220/sb0990
I have read that it's possible to make my own cables for increasing the inputs on the sb0220 and sb0990 i have both cards up and running with the kxdrivers.
I dont quite understand how to hook up the cables i see one would go to say > cd-in , spidf or aux in on one card but the other end of the cable would plug into ? arnt all the additional internal plugs on the cards all inputs ? would i take a line out from the external jack of the sb0220 and (with the madeup cable) plug into aux-in , i guess i dont quite understand how this is supposed to work. would the D.S.P. be able to change an input to output ? Any help would be great as i see the benifits of having 2 cards for recording multi-track. I dont have alot of money to spend on buying an interface for recording only 4 inputs. I have a bunch of digital cd-rom cables and i was hoping to make the cables needed from these. Ive searched the messageboard and read alot of posts to get these two cards going Thanks Jim |

Ok... first off - I dont know your cards specifically - and NOT all cards are so easy to do this with...
A rough explain.... A slave card (which is usually the card that sends its output through SPDIF into the master cards SPDIF input) The master card receives this as a sort of 'submix' from the slave card SPDIF is a digital way of transmitting STEREO audio with no loss in quality - as theres no D>A - A>D converting that would normally happen if they were attached using the analog speaker/line outputs or the slave and analog/line inputs of the master card. The master card would be the device chosen in DAW SW and/or as the windows defualt sound device. There are some conditins that your card must meet - mostly reguarding if the connections exist or what type of pin header it has... 1) the slave card needs to have an SPDIF output available http://www.hardwareheaven.com/audio-general-technical-discussion/51505-soundblaster-live-audigy-1-2-x-fi-pinouts.html The link above shows 'pinouts' of the headrs found on the card - not all cards have the same headers - some have them removed completely.. 2) Connect this to the master cards SPDIF input (I use the digital CD input) again... depends on the card. Then theres the DSP configs once the above has been all sorted out.... 1) the slave card make sure your sending all of its output to the SPDIF out that you were able to connect to phyically on the card (found on EPILOG) 2) the master card will receive ALL audio outputted by the slave card - available in the DSP in the PROLOG (or Profx SRC - set to the SPDIF INPUT you were able to connect to) for # 2 - you can just unmute the SPDIF or digital input in the KX mixer to hear the SLAVE cards output. - you can also now rout this into ASIO or WDM recording inputs - or mix with master cards inputs. There are choices and options - but also limitations.. You obviously only have either a submix of all the slave cards output available in the master cards DSP - or you ONLY output say, the slave cards analog line in - through to the slave cards SPDIF output in the slave cards DSP.. I see ok alittle more involved than i expected but i gotta try !
The hardware end of it will be a breeze with the information youve provided (pin outs too) I guess the tough part is learning the DSP and how to actually put one together. Im new to this and it seems confusing at first but im getting the hang of it slowly. Ive read the text on DSP and read it again so its finally sinking in. Thanks for your quick response and great info MD6 Jim1218 |
