3538l released

hi there

let me introduce the new build - 3538l

changes:

- ASIO sync code re-written. I added a lot of new sync options and improved several parts of the driver. Please check all the options, if applicable, and let me know if ASIO performance is close to 3534f or not. note that some are 10k2-specific, while the others require SMP/HT machine. otherwise you either won't get any sound or our PC will freeze. note that most options are configuration-specific. that is, pls use a separate thread - "kx3538l performance", and share your experience. pls specify your cpu (amd/intel), hyperthreading/dualcore/smp/uniprocessor; acpi/non-acpi; performance/application setting in 'system'; windows xp version and service packs applied.

- fixed several addons-related issues. addons specification updated

- added option to choose system tray double-click action (e.g. launch kX DSP) - tray - settings - double-click submenu. it should be possible to assign double-click to any plugin you wish by editing the registry manually (will add a 'right-click in kX DSP' assignment later)

- SDK: added option to launch any effect/mixer page/applet/addon by a GUID. the list of kxmixer guids is located in the skin file (in particular, buttons.ini). review activate() and launch() functions

- kX skin architecture is being revised. more changes to follow. elder skins no longer compatible

- updated mixy42, mixy84 and loudness plugins

- enhanced support for assignable mixer controls. it should be possible to assign any dsp controls to master/wave/synth/rec levels. use kxctrl -ma (note: usage option has been changed!)

- minimized windows should restore properly now

this build is vista-friendly. it should install properly, provided you turn off restricted account feature. however, ASIO driver and speaker test won't run properly
--

as always, no 24/96 ASIO support; no fix for a2zsnb analog input; no EAX2
certain plugins might be incompatible with 3538l. plugin authors: please contact me if you wish me to update your plugins bundled with the driver

status of this release: EXPERIMENTAL
bug reports are welcome here: 3538l bug reports

previous build: 3538k

It seems that most 3538K plugins are compatible with 3538L.

What exactly can we do with the sync option?
- I think the ASIO driver is faster than ever before: I was able to play a 116 MB Piano with lots of fx @ a latency of 5ms in Reason, without noticing any glitches.

Thank a lot for this nice release!

System Specs

the sync option is to do with the way the CPU(s) handles the ASIO code iirc, different options will perform better on different configurations

This is a really nice update. Thanks
Can't wait till the skinning engine becomes more solidified so I can begin working on a skin .. hehe
The double click is a great addition as well...

Seems to work great here, good work. Only thing that bothers me is that "kX skin architecture is being revised", which forces me to use the default skin. Sorry, but that skin is horrid and I hope the alternative ones will be updated shortly.

No one's going to update skins until the new architecture is complete. Wouldn't make much sense to do that. I've done a skin before and there's a lot of work invovled. I personally wouldn't want to do work on it again now and have a new engine come out in the near future. lol

Works great. Can't believe that ProFX already has arelease for this version, which is important to me since it pretty much IS my DSP!

About the right click option; how can I get it to default to MX6. I saw that it said to edit the registry. I wouldn't kknow where to begin. I thought maybe it was in a .inf in the KX folder.

Thanks for another great release

Has SPDIF-in AC3 decoding been touched at all in this build? In version k it was extremely buggy and would cut in/out, and get garbled at points.

Anybody with a Creative Audigy card using these drivers under Vista (RC1 or 5728)?

Does ac3/dts pass through work?

I think you'll find it HAS improved - still not perfect - but I find it useable now (for the most part)

Wow, you are right! It has improved greatly! First time I was able to have firefox open to some website, and still be able to play sound through my SPDIF-input without it being all broken up!!

What issues have you found are still there with it, since I haven't done extensive testing yet?

If I change chapters in a dvd *sometimes* the stuttering will start - sometimes it will fix itself - but sometimes I HAVE to hit stop/play to fix it...

All I see is a blank page when I click on the link of the Mixer pic you posted.

Would like to see a pic of that Mixer!

@Russ:
Ok - now it works...
edit:
Weird - they look identical... ?? - maybe its aglefire is wackey..??)
end edit

@NightBreed:
Sweet! - but I have a suggestion -
I always thought the 'spectrum' was mis-leading and think 'HW Streams' or even just 'Streams' would be more accurate of a description...

Either way... Sweet.

Ya, you're right, it is still struggling. Only thing is now it will fix itself much quicker, but it will still get garbled again sometimes.

Also, is it just a natural thing with AC3 input that on some things if there is a loud sound, it will crackle through your speakers? Sometimes a loud sound like that will hit and it will cause the sound to crackle as if it has hit the top of the range or something. Is this something that can be auto-recognized and scaled dynamically? Something like recognize if it goes above a certain dB, then normalize it? Don't know how hard this is to achieve, so was just throwing it out there.

Only bug I see is that EFX plugins take about 10 secs to load now.
