Multiple Outputs?
Not sure if this can be achieved, but thought I would ask anyhow.
I use the same PC to drive my home audio setup using iTunes as my kids use to destroy invading aliens (play games). The PC runs an Audigy 2ZS OEM connected via digital to my A/V receiver, and to a pair of desktop computer speakers connected to the green socket on the card. I would like to be able to direct the game sound to the desktop speakers only and the iTunes sound to the a/v receiver only. I have looked at all of those lines in the DSP window and don't know where to start. Any help appreciated, I am sure someone else has done this before. |

ok so the kids' game is connected via the rear output (kX has them swapped by default - green= rear, black=front)
in the windows sounds' control panel set kX Wave 6/7 as your default output now i'm assuming the digital connection is the front output? in iTunes (don't ask me where, i don't use it) there *should* be an option to choose which soundcard to use (winamp and WMP have it) in there select kX Wave 4/5 and that should do the trick

Looks like iTunes uses the windows default output - so Id say its not possible with iTunes.
edit: unless the game can be changed instead of iTunes.. ?? end edit |

I do not use iTunes, so I do not know much about it, but after a quick search, I found some info that might be useful to you.
There is a plugin for iTunes called Multi-Plugin, which does Foobar2000 passthrough. What this means is that if you install Foobar2000 and the above plugin, iTunes will play through Foobar2000's engine, and thus use Foobar2000's settings (and Foobar2000's plugins like Kernel Streaming, ASIO, etc). With such options you should be able to completly seperate game audio from your music. I do not know anything about the plugin, beyond what I read about it, so I cannot comment on how well it works, but it sounds like it is something that could help you do what you want. Beyond the above, do you have to use iTunes to play your music? As already mentioned, other programs (again I do not know much about iTunes) do allow you to select the output device, and have plugins for things like ASIO, etc, and thus would allow you to do what you want. |

As Russ wrote + ... there are players like Native Instruments TRAKTOR BeatPort Player that lets user set output ports freely for stereo output (best w/ ASIO) but, (dunno if this is issue w/ kX too) least the latest original Creative drivers mixes output to every enabled speakers (2/2.1 - 7.1) when MME/DS driver modes are used (w/ older drivers this was different so it was possible to play lets say Winamp, TRAKTOR and Foobar simultaenously) --> if games uses MME/DS then simultaenous use is not possible (anymore, least w/ Creative drivers 02.09.0016).

I assumed the OP sticks with iTunes for this reason -I cant think of any other reason to use iTunes bloatware..lol (as per the task manager - 48MB for iTunes - compared to 13MB for foobar) |

BTW, to me, the latest versions of iTunes and QuickTime 7 (even alone) just mesed the audio totally --> everything played at double/variating speed w/ distortion and other issues (this is W2k system). Also, NI TRAKTOR BeatPort Player is one file installation (~2 MB). jiitee |

Thanks for the replies guys wil give it a try tomorrow, playing around with all of this crashed my system this morning - rebuild of windows later, I am ready to give it a go.
ITunes uses Quicktime for playback, so I think I need to set the playback device in Quicktime control panel - we'll see. I think that Multi-Plugin thingo is for Apple? |

Well folks I am stumped
I did as Russ suggested, obtained the Multi-Plugin for iTunes to allow pass through to foobar. Set default audio playback device in windows control panel to kx Wave kx Generic [dcc0] 6/7 Set foobar output device to kx Wave kx Generic [dcc0] 4/5 All tests using foobar directly without iTunes to confuse the issue. Set speakers to 5.1-direct path as suggested somewhere else here on the forum. I get sound to both out put devices from each source. i.e. play a tune it goes to both desktop speakers and a/v receiver, same with game noise. Somehow the audio output devices do not seem to be separate. Any clues? i am sure this is easy, but I am really confused now. thanks for the help so far, the driver produces very clear sound, and I am amazed at the difference beween the foobar output and that from the old Quicktime |

And if all is ok - mayby direct them to outputs directly - as the surrounder may have a bug for your particular card model - or is confusing the issue otherwise.. ?? - Or if not - post those results and maybe we can whittle it down further.. ?? But my strong suspician is lack of understanding - as many people do very similar things (just with different SW for different reasons) For instance - foobar has MANY options. And I suppose you need to make sure foobar isnt upconverting stereo to 5.1 (which would force other channels to mix with your game sounds) hope that helps.... |

Are your analog speakers connected to the green jack (with 'Toggle Swap Front and Rear' enabled in kxmixer) as dj_stick indicated?

Also, remember check that you may have output ports (Front/Rear) swapped (isn't that defaulted in kX?). If needed, you can do this swap inside the Foobar too. jiitee |

Thank you so much folks, all working now. Must have got a little plug and click happy if you know what I mean. Anyhow, for the record here is how it went.
desktop Speakers in GREEN jack set to default device and kx Wave 6/7 A/V digital output to A/V receiver from DIGITAL jack. playback via iTunes with the Multi-Plugin set to Foobar pass through and output to kx wave 4/5. Now when my wife and I sit in the lounge room listening to Manfred Mann's Earth Band, we will not be disturbed by the sound of invading orcs or commands from the Road to Hill 60. Brilliant. Top that off with better audio from foobar, endless possibilities from the kx driver, a VERY neat interface in iTunes with the new cover browser feature, and I am one happy chappy. Thanks again |
