5.1 Problems in Vista with 3538l

I've just installed release 3538L on a Vista RTM setup because the Beta Creative drivers for my Audigy Platinum are due to expire in January. Everything installed OK, but when I try and set my speaker configuration to 5.1 in the Control Panel, I get an error 'Format not supported by the device'. Only stereo and mono settings work. Also the KXmixer speaker test puts up an error of 'Failed to create sound'.

I've set the Surrounder to Speaker Mode of 5.1, Surround = On and Subwoofer is enabled which does result in wave playback through all 6 speakers, - which is better than the Creative drivers could manage - but I was hoping to playback DVDs and get the full 5.1 experience.

Any pointers/help would be appreciated!

Setup is an SB0090 10K2 [8000], Windows Vista (6000), 5.1 Creative speakers, AMD 64x2 (4400+) with 2Gbytes RAM.

Same as above with SBLive! 5.1.
Sound test not working, Windows detect card as stereo/mono, kXdrivers are my only option because Creative is not going to develop drivers for my card.

Also I have "choppy" sound when i launch "energy" screensaver or any other 3D app while listening to audio through DirectSound, sound through WaveOut seems ok, but i think it's because Vista doesn't support hardware access through DirectSound. I heard also that "hardware" access can be done under Vista only through OpenAL (http://www.openal.org/openal_vista.html), but this is story for another topic.
Correct me if i'm wrong.
