getting spdif in to work in live! card
I've been using this pin diagram for reference:
http://www.hardwareheaven.com/audio-general-technical-discussion/51505-soundblaster-live-audigy-1-2-x-fi-pinouts.html I connected a Live! 5.1 digital card to my 1212m to serve as a DSP, but I couldn't get any of the AD_EXT spdif inputs to work. The spdif out (connected to pins 17 e 18) works and sends the stream correctly to the 1212m, but to get any input in the live card from the 1212m, only the CD DIGITAL pins work. I just can't get any working SPDIF in the AD_EXT pins. |

the AUD_EXT header requireds TTL (+5v) level, where as the CD_SPDIF can handle both TTL and standard SPDIF levels(+/-0.5v)
perhaps this is the reason why it's not working correctly

Oh, didn't know that... but ALL the spidf in pins in AD_EXT require ttl level?
Because spdif out (17+18) from AD_EXT works great into the 1212m. thanks. |

yes, the CD_SPDIF has a seperate buffer, to allow it to cope with non-TTL levels
however the AUD_EXT header is designed as an expansion slot - these buffers are usually placed on the expansion modules (saves costs on the bare card) and the SPDIF output is also at TTL levels, be careful as this could damage some equipment, but it seems that the 1212 is quite capable of handling these high levels

Very useful information, I didn't know anything about that. I gotta be sure it's safe to continue doing that... I'll ask E-mu about it. Thanks for the tips once again.

dj_stick,
There have been a number of questions concerning connecting to the 1212m and other similar cards. Just my opinion here, but it seems that this thread might be a good candidate to be a sticky. |
