Kx Destroyed My Sound Card !!!!

I installed Kx drivers for my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card and the drivers permanently damaged my freaking sound card !

That is highly unlikely, what makes you think that kX destroyed your card?

How is that possible?

Have you tried removing the card from the system, doing a fresh install of Windows XP and then re-installed the sound card (in the same slot and then if needed, moving it to another slot) and installing the original Creative drivers from scratch?

I usually do a Norton Ghost image of my system before a hardware upgrade so I can quickly revert back to the exact place I was before I did the upgrade, in case something like that happens.

Best of luck in figuring it out. Hopefully it is not as bad as you fear.

I tried to deinstall and reinstall the kX drivers 4-5 times, then I tried to reinstall the creative drivers 3-4 times, out of desperation I did a whole new XP reinstall then installed the creative drivers, but I still get the crappy sound from the sound card ! In fact some files don't even play music ( even if I have all the required filters ! ).

Run the Creative Restore Defaults program to reset the hardware.
You can also run Creative Diagnostics to test the hardware.

Double check your speaker connections (maybe a connection pulled out partially).

As for some files not playing (what files?), that would most likely be a software issue.

Just doesn't seem to make that much sense.

If you've tried pulling it out, doing a fresh install on a newly formatted drive, then put the card back into the machine (maybe in a different slot) then installed the driver package that came with the card when you bought it and it still doesn't work, perhaps Creative will provide warranty service?

In my experience (with both the Creative Labs drivers and kX), reinstalling does not guarantee that the hardware is completely reintialized to the proper settings. I think that the drivers are expecting certain settings to never change, and thus do not bother to reinitialize those values, and if something happens that causes those values to change, a hardware reset is necessary to fix it. IIRC, the Creative Restore Defaults program will do this.

Unfortunatly, there is no "Create Restore Defaults" program for my Audigy 2

So I can't check to see if what you are saying is true.

Did you install from CD? ...It is listed as part of the software pack for Audigy 2 cards, but I do not know if it is included with the driver on the CL website.

Ok, I managed to find the cd and run "Creative Restore Default", however it didn't fix the sound

It seems like my soundcard is indeed destroyed.

Sorry to hear that did not help you. Did you run the Creative Diagnostics?

Can you elaborate a little more about the problem? "Crappy sound" could mean many things, while a more detailed description might point us in the right direction to (maybe) help solve your problem.

BTW:
What is the specific model of your sound caard (i.e. SB0xxx)?
What OS are you using?
What type of speaker system?

Maybe just a mixed install. Could you list all driver details listed for your audgy 2.
start run... mmsys.cpl
You'll find the information @ Hardware -tab -> Audigy WDM -> Properties -> Driver -> Driver Details.

thanks to kx i just got an old Audigy card working, after unsuccessfully trying a crapload of creative drivers.

with the creative crap the card just made high pitch noise or none at all. now it works perfect. thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate Creative drivers. I have had a few Creative cards, the best of which was the SB Pro. I have an Audigy 2 that came with one of my rigs and I replaced it with a TB Santa Cruz. That Audigy just caused trouble, at least the drivers did, so I gave up.

I sure do miss Media Vision. And the Aureal thing started by the same guys. Those were some good cards.
