Audigy 2 users - how is kX for you?
Hi there,
Ive got an Audigy 2 card, but I haven't even tried kX. Id like to know from Audigy 2 users: 1. What is your experience of using kX ?2. What works , what doesn't ?3. Was it worth installing kX for you ?Thanks DaveH |

I've been using kX with my Audigy2 since 3528 when the audigy2 wasn't aupported at all (Only the headphone outputs worked). I couldn't stand the interface of the creative drivers.
In any case, it's working great now, all the outputs and inputs work, the interface is great, the drivers are stable for the most part, except for a few issues related to the MIDI synthesizer (MIDI UART I/O works completely bug-free though, which is more important). They're rock-solid compared to the creative drivers (Creative is IMHO the MS of Hardware - many of their products are excellent, except creative makes crappy drivers (I once got my entire windows install completely ruined when I installed the drivers for my DXR2 board - half the VXDs got deleted somehow, and windows wouldn't boot.), and MS products are too expensive and don't like anything that isn't made by someone who's in bed with MS) The only thing that doesn't work is 24-bit output. Anything i try to use at 24-bit either gets truncated to 16-bit (with waveOut and DirectSound) or ignored (Kernel Streaming). Overall, I think that the fact that I used the kX drivers even when i had to plug my speakers into the headphone output should speak for itself as to their excellent quality. |

I've had this unique and joyous problem since I got my audigy2- the Subwoofer output has been rather void. Using the latest CL drivers, the most I could muster was an extremely light thump at max power.
Mind, I am using the analog outputs to the discrete 7.1's on my Pioneer VSX-D811S (because the friggin card doesn't output encoded channel info on the digital coax, beyond the L/R signal). I know the Woof works, beause I can use the digital side, or just flip on my tuner and the damn thing makes everything rattle around on the countertops. So skip ahead a tad, I find (by luck) the kX drivers. Out with the old, in with the new. A few adjustments, and yeah, I turn on that bass option, and the world begins shaking like it's supposed to. I should be happy, non? But I'm not. I can't seem to figure out what/where I'm going wrong, but my audio isn't working quite like I expect it to. For starters, all 2-channel sound comes out of all 5 base speakers. I can load up the DSP screen and disable stereo chorus (which does the trick), but now NONE of my programs seem to be producing the surround sound. I'd welcome tips on this, as I'm new to the package, and gods know it's got enough friggin features.. but I dont want to use any Virtual anything. (And if it got updated so my full 6.1 setup would work, all the better) - Don't get me wrong, stuff sounds good, but without my rear speakers providing the right sound, I tend to lose the edge gained by gaming in this environment. As a test for the sound, i was using Winamp(2) with the Stu003 A3D output plugin (v1.22). On the CL drivers, I got full system sound with the plain MP3s, but only in winamp. WMP gave me straight 2-channel like I expected, and proper surround when gaming (Freelancer/UT2003/GTA3, etc). That seems to have died on me. |
