Using KX drivers on the EMU APS. Small problem
Hi,
The KXProject looks like it went through a lot in the last year and a half! I remember when Hanz (from the EIP homepage) asked me to try out some things on my APS a long time ago. Anyway, the drivers look great! It has a nice interface and it's very flexible, but alas there is an issue that I'm unsure if it can be solved by a small tweak. I notice that when I use the original EMU drivers, the APS sounds about a good 6db higher than the KX drivers. Is there something that I can do on my end to make the Main Outs have a higher output? The KXMixer has the Main Output pair all the way up, and it's still quite a big lower than the original EMU APS drivers. To everyone that has/is helping on this project: Thanks! -=proto=- |

You could use the gain plugin to get the same level of sound but you'd loose quality. I've read in another thread that by default Creative and E-mu drivers use this trick: more gain, less quality.

BTW, the version of the KXdrive I'm using is the last stable version. I couldn't find a Gain Plugin anywhere in the DSP area. Is the Gain plugin only in the beta version?
Is there somewhere where I can look up information on why the level is low, and what kind of noisefloor exists with the Gain plugin in use? I'm interested if the EMU APS really did put Gain at the Analog Outputs, to have a little background on the quality of my softsynths using the driver. (maybe a previous thread?) -=proto=- |

Than that "-6dB" thingy is caused by known (and very annoing) kX vs. 9x issue also known as "Not working Wave/PCM Volume"... For some reason only level of "Wave8/9" port can be controlled, and other wave ports (0/1 etc.) are set by Windows to its default "-6dB"... So one solution is to use one of the gain plugins included and another (i mentioned this way many times earlier) one is to set fxbuses 0/1 as destination for Wave8/9 via kX Router and use Wave8/9 as default port...

![]() Oh, now I see. I'm currently using Sonar 2.2 with WDM on the machine in question, will switching the port to 8/9 affect the latency? The Gain Plugin is not found in the last stable version from what I see... Is it included only with the beta version? -=proto=- |
