installation error: access is denied
Win XP Pro SP1
SB Live 5.1 I failed to install the driver with either the setup (kx 3531) or manually. Although I'm logged in as an administrator on the system I get an device installation failure message (access is denied). I've tried the manual install in safe mode with the same result. Any clue? |

You may have disabled your own access to drivers instalation... Have you messed around with services or permitions settings?

I don't think so. I had no trouble installing the original Creative driver with the same account. Do you know how I can check the permission settings for driver installation?

Make sure you have "allow installation of unsigned drivers" enabled... maybe that's the reason...

If this is the setting in System properties/Hardware/Driver signing, it's already on ("Ignore - Install the software anyway and don't ask for my approval" and "Make this action the system default" are both checked).

class installer problem
Since it's really not a good time for me to reinstall xp I've tried a little harder. Trying to install the original drivers from the CD I still failed but got a somewhat different error message: 'the class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device'. Any idea about what this means? Is there still a chance that I can reinstall the original driver (or better the kx) without reinstalling windows?
