Sound quality
Hey guys..I just installed the Kx Drivers..and The latency boosts are great...
But I wanted to ask if anyone thought the sound quality seemed ...not as good. I was listening to some mp3's and they seem to have lost a lot of bass and mid-bass. Maybe its because I had to switch from directsound to nullsoft waveout I dunno though....Everything seems to have lost that bassey punch Is there a reason why direct sound wont work? (It says device not found when I try to play an mp3 ..I use winamp by the way... Windows media player has always been a disappointment to me) Anyway Any tips to get everything running great Id appreciate a lot Using my computer primarily for playing music and composing via fruity loops, as well as a few other programs I use less often. I do occasionally play games as well, but most important to me is composing music. If you wanna talk to me about anything You can instant message me Aim Grenade01 Icq 2427774 yahoo Grenadezeroone msn Grenade01@hotmail.com

So the asio driver only supports 48000 sound quality?
Not that I dont want that sound quality But whenever I change it in some of my programs they tell me it will cause oddities and funny sound changes... Is this the case for anyone else? Ive never used such godly sound qualities..lol And the specific hardware has to support asio right? Because my software guitar amp programs are getting worse latency now and i cant select asio while in them....that would be sweet to get 2ms in those programs as its hard to play guitar when you got an echo a second later lol... (revalver..guitar fx box 2.6 ect) Sorry Im retarded..Im new to all this stuff and Im still in the process of reading the manual and stuff edit: It appears not very many of my programs support the asio drivers (because its not showing up in output with the others)????This sucks because my latency went through the roof for the non asio stuff..its not even showing up in rebirth ..which I would have expected it to... (not that I like rebirth that much anyway) Last edited by Grenade01; Mar 31, 2003 at 11:23 PM. |

hmm...ok, so what are your specific questions?
let me see: 1. sound quality should be *better* (due to swapping of front/rear channels) what speakers are you using? 5.1? or standard stereo? -i've found that with my speakers (5.1) if I uncheck the "swap front/rear" in the mixer, then i get almost no bass. this is due to, er...well, i'm not *entirely* sure but It seems that the front/rear bass cancels each other out. maybe this is what you are experiencing. 2. direct sound output in winamp *should* work perfectly. it does for me anyway. are you using the latest drivers? 3. yes, kx drivers lock the sample rate to 48khz (and yes, it's for a good reason, and not just to annoy you!) the problems you will encouter will be if the program you are using does not support 48khz. most do, but some (rebirth for example) doesn't. this means that the sound will be out of tune. 4. to take advantage of the reduced latency, you will need programs which support ASIO. if the program you are using doesn't, then you should get just the same latency that you did with the standard drivers. 5. Rebirth doesn't support ASIO, but i've never found this to be a problem anyway. (i use it with Cubase) ok, maybe not much help there, but at least it clears up what should and shouldn't be happening... |

Im using only two speakers, but they are really nice =) My dad originally bought them for the rear speakers for his big screens surround sound, but ended up getting smaller speakers (as they are like 5 feet tall hahaha) I may not have the drivers configured right for 2 speakers..I had to uncheck the swap to get sound as well... so the sound mustve been only coming out the rear.
No matter what I try icant get direct sound working in winamp...i went back to the creative drivers temporarily and direct sound worked fine again..but i rewent back to the kx drivers (they are the newest ones by the way) and its saying device not found again. The nullsoft wave out seems to crackle and sound real crappy for some reason..I miss the direct sound one.... My latencies did go slightly up in non asio programs..I dunno why..and my guitar amp program stopped working altogether But its all worth it to have 2ms in fruity I use fruity so much its super sexy for me hehe
