what's that game doomsday? if you got sound but not music maybe you have to select soundfont file because music is possibly midi.

yeah I think DOOM used midi for music -
But it seems like doomsday snowberry - may not use it anymore... others report issues with OOG .?? http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/archiv...p/t-25828.html |

Another common problem with audio in games is with the Hardware Acceleration for audio. Try lowering the Acceleration to the 'Basic' or 'None' setting.

Hey thx for the replies.
How do i choose a sound font? So i think i need to clear some things up.. I can "play midi" in the sense that if i open acid and play a midi file using one of my soft synths, it certainly plays, but is this different to when the game would try & play its midi files? Is this where i would have to choose a soundfont, to give it instruments to play with? Someone on the doomsday forum (http://forums.newdoom.com/showthread...d=1#post506924) just told me, as the music is playing ok in Dosbox (where the game is contained within dos), it must be a problem with Directsound. Now when I go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\dxdiag.exe & go to the Music tab, i do a play test. when i go down the list of ports (eg "kx Wave SB0060 5.1 [e400] 0/1") they all play music fine until I get to "Microsoft Midi Mapper [emulated]", then none of them play (eg. "kx Synth SB0060 5.1 [e400] [emulated]"). Does this have anything to do with it u think? Thanks heaps for help guys, Nathan |

I just looked up info on that game and indeed it does use midi for music, so you will need to load a soundfont to hear the music.
You load soundfonts via the Soundfont page of kxmixer (click the "+" button, browse for/select the .SF2 file that you want to load (just use the default options when asked to select a bank). You should load at least one (complete) GM soundfont. The easiest is usually to use one of the ones that came with your card, if you still have them (on your harddrive or if you still have the installation CD). The file names are usually one (or more) of the following: CT2MGM.SF2, CT4MGM.SF2, CT8MGM.SF2 If you no longer have those files, free GM soundfonts can be found easily enough on the internet. |

Thanks again. |
