Can hear microphone, but nothing gets recorded.
I'm using Cubase SX, along with a external mixing table. Into that mixing table I've connected a microphone and a guitar, wich both gives of sound when played.
Im using KX 3538, but when I try recording in Cubase and any other program, nothing gets recorded, although I do hear over my speakers when I play the guitar or talk in the microphone. Any Ideas?

Thanks, Ive allready been over that one, but it didnt really get me that much brighter over this whole issue. I do believe that the problem lies in there somewhere, cause I didnt have this issue before I innstalled kx.
But I've fallen inb love with kx so theres no way im getting rid of it. There's to much technical mambojumbo for me to fool around with the whole DSP settings, so I dont suppose there any Cubase DSP presets out there that I ccould get my hands on, and start from there? |

Well - theres the 'kx preset exchange' - that likely has old configs using older versions of plugins that tend to be problematic. So its my recommendation to learn how to make DSP configs your self - once yo get a clear grasp - I find it much faster just to make my own than searching for ones that may not suit you for your particular needs.
Also there are some card models that have a 'ASIO mapping' issue that can cause the symptom you describe (can hear but not record). You can use the forum search to look for those terms in (' ') But the limited info you have posted makes it difficult to help much more than I have... You could post the kX ABOUT info - that would tell all about your setup. Heres a pic that may help explain the DSP a little... http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/2...monitordl5.jpg http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/1...diprofxyq0.jpg - needs update to ProFX plugins but if you read lex's page - its got the same basic info... I understand kX is a learning curve - but its also what gives kX its flexibility too... |

Appretiate the help here, really eager to getting to know this program.
I did check out the kx exchange system, and tried to download a few of them, although none did seem to suit my needs or was out of date. I do have a soundblaster live audio card, not sure about exactly the type. Ill go around and figure out wich if these cards may have an issue. I do have the microphone and guitar rigged into the mixing table wich again is rigged into the record slot on my comp, im usually using 2 speakers, but headphones while making music. Another thing, I have lots of boxes on my DSP, wich I dont see that anyone else have, could I just remove them all and start from scratch? Or are those essential for me to have sound. screenie: http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/1250/testlm2.jpg Downloading and innstalling the updated PROFX plugin now. Only Live! 5.1 models have the mapping issue, so that should not be a problem for you.

With the above config (default config), in order to record using ASIO you need to unmute the 'AC97 In' slider on the 'Ins and Outs' page of kxmixer, and select the AC97 input (Line In or Mic, depending on which input your are using), in the AC97 source selection box on the 'AC97' page of kxmixer'. From the screenshot, it looks like as though it is connected to ASIO 2/3, so those are the inputs that you should select in the host software. Last edited by Russ; Jun 12, 2007 at 08:44 PM. Also - you do have Cubase set up properly to record kX ASIO 2/3 (for the defualt kX DSP config - or what ever you choose if making your own kX DSP config) ? - you will 'hear' the inputs (aka hardware monitoring) even tho cubase wont have anyway to record them until you do - this seems to be mis-understood by some.

This all sounds like alot of french to me.
Im using the standard microphone slot right next to the audio one. I guess Im looking for a standard DSP as a template, and then work my way from there. Just tried to delete this whole DSP template I had, but I just sat there staring at the wall, very confused. So I dont suppose any of you guys have one of these? |

What (specifically) do you not understand?
i.e. Do you not know how to access the different pages of kxmixer? Do you not know how to mute/unmute sliders? Do you not know how to select inputs in your host software? ..etc. |

Cubase wont record anything until you first enable configure it to use ASIO XX for inputs (FX Sends etc etc) this is done with another applet found in the Cubase Start menu - and also with in Cubase - Read the Cubase manual for clearer steps to do this.

So should I just clear the entire DSP template and add: Stereomix 2 ProFX:Src ProFX:MX6 ProFX:Kxlt ProFXASIO according to the http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/1...diprofxyq0.jpg ; connect these properly, and it should work? This is what im very unsure of, what I need, and how to fit them together. |

You also need ProFx:ADC.
That config probably has more than you need, this one is a little less complicated (same thing minus the midi stuff): http://i14.tinypic.com/67wy9n5.gif |

Awesome, that did the trick, almost.
I do have sound outside of cubase, Im also able to record and actually getting something recorded within cubase. Only issue I have now is that I dont have sound within cubase, I can see a recording is beeing made, and that the sound bars are moving, only no sound. So I'm almost there. Im guessing I either missed something, or my Cubase aint configured properly. |

With this config, you should configure Cubase to use ASIO 0/1 for output.
Beyond the above, I do not know (I do not have Cubase myself), but there is the guide for using Cubase with kX (see the link that Maddogg6 posted previously). Last edited by Russ; Jun 13, 2007 at 12:05 AM. |

Make sure track 1 (left most) in MX6 is enabled and Volume is adjusted. (The ASIO 0/1 Monitor level - aka 'FXBuss 0/1')
edit: Just so you are clear... FXBuss 0 to 15 are used for kX ASIO 0 to 15 playback respectively. The config Russ posted shows using 'FXBuss 0/1' - so you need Cubase to use 'kX ASIO 0/1' for Cubase's 'MAIN' output. Last edited by Maddogg6; Jun 13, 2007 at 01:00 AM. |

Cool, I think im starting to get the hang of this now. Got a major lightbulb all of a sudden, thanks to you guys. cheers.
I also started making another preset for when im gaming, with mic. So far its looking good, although I somehow dont have no main volume control bar anymore. the sound is there, but its loud, and im unable to turn it down. http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/7551/test2nc8.jpg |

Main volume in the kX Mixer is only there because EPILOG.
The kX mixer partially relies on plugins the default DSP configuration contains. edit. So use the MAIN volume in MX6 |

Fair enough, I still cant get my microphone to work online gaming though. Something I've missed? Cause the mic gauge moves when I speak.

You have (according to your last pic) WinMM of Kxlt connected to SEND 2 of MX6 - so - adjust SEND 2 level of track 6 (ProFx:ADC input).- Top Slider is SEND 2

You have the wrong connection going to WinMM Recording (kxlt).
It should be the same pins that are connected to ASIO (see the pic Maddogg6 posted). |

Allrighty, i sorted out the microphone when gaming thingy.
Now I have also managed to get the microphone working outside of cubase, but inside i cant get anything recorded. So I believe I messed up the fxbus maby, or something inside cubase. screenie of my DSP setup: http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/811/kxfm1.jpg screenie of my Cubase connections setup: http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/615/connectionspl4.jpg |

The DSP looks good.
Cubase output config looks good, but and I think the input config may be wrong. ASIO 2/3 was for the default config, not the ProFx config. You probably want ASIO 0/1 for input, but I am not sure because it is a little different for my 5.1 card, and I am not completely sure how ProFX:ASIO is numbered with your card. |

Allright, I tried switching ASIO 0/1 for input, and 2/3 for output, and that did the trick.
So for now everything looks to be working good, a thousand of thanks to you guys, without you this would have taken days. Cheers!
