Recording without playback

I recently bought a retail Audigy Player package, which consists of a audigy card with no extras. I've had this problem from start that the line-in recording is dead except when you turn on the playback of the line-in channel.

This is a quite a problem because you must be able to record without enabling the playback on the record-channel, when you have a setup with a mixer and some music eqipment connected. When the recorded sound is played back it will produce echos or in my case produce acoustic feedback. It isn't even enough turning the line-in playback on, you must raise it to full volume to get full record volume.

So I updated the creative drivers to the latest version, which HAS an option to be able to record without playback. Does it work? No.

My question is: Is this possible with the kX drivers, to record without having the playback channel turned on for that channel?

Yes, it is possible. You can just go into page AC97 of kxmixer and select LINE IN in the drop down menu, leaving the line in faders in the same page muted or in the 0 volume position. But you'll need to leave the AC97 fader, in INS AND OUTS page up and enabled. But you'll achieve what you want.

Thanks

Many thanks for answering on this topic!

Phew, for a moment there I thought I have thrown my money in the trashbin. I think it's a scandal that you can't do this on a new card with the latest original drivers. It worked perfectly on my old SB PCI64V.

How do you solve the recording yourself? After reading your list of equipment, I can guess that you do record music and such. I have some sort of loop connected through the mixer, in that way that the output of the soundcard is added in the mix, and the resulting mix are also sent back to the input of the soundcard.

(what a problem? for plain recording unmute only fader ar "recording" page and leave it muted at "ins'n'outs", for asio recording just break the wires coming from "prolog" to "routing" at kx dsp...)
