SB0243 no digital output

I have an Audigy 2 Dell OEM board (says SB0350 on the board but the KXProject drivers pick it up as SB0243). Problem is I can't get any sound from the digital output. I have a toslink cable with a 1/8 adapter (I think that's the right spec, I'm not sure though). The toslink cable is plugged into a digital receiver. I can get sound from the analog output. Does anyone know the proper settings? I am using KX Version 5.10.0.3537

Is the digital output supposed to be automatically enabled? I clicked on the SPDIF passthru enable button and nothing changed. Is my card just broken? I got it off ebay so it's possible..

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm using an Athlon 1800+, XP Service Pack 2, 512 MB RAM.

On the kX Ins and Outs page on the kX Mixer - make sure the spdif output is not muted - but AFAIK - its at full output volume by default... but???

Broken?? - more likely that particular model is just not fully supported - being a Dell OEM - consider your self lucky - I didnt think they would work at all.
edit... unless it *is* a problem with your TOSlink adaptor thing... ?? I dunno much about that.

drivers?

Thanks for the quick reply.. I looked at that, and it is not muted. Usually I can tell if there is signal through the cable because the other end lights up red, with this card it doesn't so that's why I was wondering if it was broken or something.

Does anyone know if there are there drivers Dell or Creative made especially for this card? I can't find them anywhere! I did find a lot of other people who couldn't get them to work though. So far I've gotten the KX driver to output sound through the analog out and the newest Creative drivers to do that same, but nothing seems to work with the SPDIF output...

You might want to try the newest version of kX - maybe it was a bug that was fixed since 3537 (latest 'stable') - Im using 3538M - and it works well enough for me - I have a 'true' SB0350 tho too..???

Great, thanks for the help! I still can't get the digital out to work, but the analog sounds really good, so I'm good with that for now.

However, I tried using the line in to record some vinyl last night, and when I enable the "Line In" on the recording tab, the output sound becomes very tinny and annoying. I can't really describe, but it sounds bad. It's hard to find bug reports for this card because it's so odd. I wish I knew more about it before I bought it.

Maybe your 'monitoring' what would be recording BEFORE the 10Band EQ (likely)
It should playback ok... unless your hearing '2 copies' - and cuasing a filtering effect.??

Does it sound OK when you play back what you recorded?

No LINE IN - on the recording Tab... ?? Line 2? - thats for a Live Bay IO break out box (fits in the floppy disk bay of your PC case)

Sorry, my mistake, I should have wrote I enabeled the Line In on the AC97 tab for the drop down choosing the recording source.

It doesn't sound OK unless I change the recording source from Line In to anything else. Then audio sounds fine. Any audio playing when Line In is the recording source sounds bad like a filtering effect described in the previous post.

Hmm I have no idea.... other than making a simple DSP to test with...
Something that just sends AC97 to ASIO or WDM rec input (assuming you are using WDM not ASIO here) and FXBuss 0/1 to a physical output.
If you ARE using ASIO - turn off 'Track Echo' or Input Monitoring - or what ever they may call 'software monitoring'..

Your not giving much detail to work with... recording SW, kX DSP config (if not default) - ASIO/WDM etc.... sorry - my psychic is on vacation

OK, thanks. I'm noew to this, so I wasn't sure what kind of detail is necessary. If it helps, this is what I did..

Install kxproject drivers (stable build 3537). Played mp3 with windows media player.. sounded great. Changed recording input on AC97 tab to Liine In. Played same mp3, sounded bad like I described. Changed recording input back to Stereo MX, audio sounded great again.

So other than the changing of the recording input on the AC97 tab, I have all the default configurations. I am using the analog output on the Audigy 2 card.

Does that help at all? As I said I am new to this so I don't have anything fancy going on at all. (No ASIO I think, if I had to install that separately, then definitely not)

Yeah me too. I ordered a retail used Audigy 2 and it should be coming soon, so hopefully that will work (model number SB0240 and the gold inputs, as far as I can tell, that's the retail version). From what I've been reading these Dell OEM Audigy 2 cards are lemons. It's weird that it's acutally an Audigy 2, but the part number on the board itself is for a 2 ZS (SB0350). It might be some sort of hybrid from the 2 cards? Also I've read that these cards don't offer Dolby Digital decoding.

Thanks so much for your help anyways.
