Problems with Recording in Mono from Line input

ok I have a pre amp going to my line input and when I first hooked everything up I could record in mono or stereo using the KX drivers. When I recently recorded something it'll record in stereo but now you cannot hear it in mono. whats worse if you listening from a mono source you cannot hear the vocals since its only stereo I really think its a routing issue because I was messing with the gain and pulled one side of the gain down It would record in mono, but I didn't have to do that before. I see the levels going up so everything is hooked up right. and I even took the preamp out and it still only recorded in stereo.

I have a ct 4670 running Kx drivers
using adobe audition with Asio

Are you sure that a preference within Adobe Audition didn't get changed? I have not used Adobe Audition before but with most recording software, there is an option to record mono or stereo somewhere in the setup.
