I have one question, I do some modifications in config with virtal 5.1 plugin, could some comment this config, is there some mistake?

http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/9481/tovn2.jpg

In this config APS Compressor+ works ok Team speak or ventrillo is set to kx wave 0/1, games uses 4/5 and higher

"I use this plugin to fade out the game sound if someone is talking in TeamSpeak. So there is never the 'PLEASE TALK A BIT LOUDER!' problem, if the game sound is very loud."

not a 'mistake' exactly.... but I would just use the MAIN output of MX6 instead of the send - just for *my* ease of understanding the controls in MX6.

I think of MAIN - as 'MONITOR' - which I make a habit of connecting to a physical output (or - the MAIN output otherwise).

Other than that - its connected in a way to fix the 'TALK A BIT LOUDER' problem...

Yes - like I said - its not 'wrong' - but I see it as a 'bad habit'...
As it makes understanding the MX6 controls a bit more complicated.

I'll post something when I get a chance...

But if it works - its good.

You probably won't hear the difference - as the compressors are doing much the same the AGC would ... Which is - maintain a consistent volume level.

The APS Compressor(+) should have an x4 plugin(s) before it, and a div4 plugin after it...

Ahhh... ok - that makes the APS compressor a little more usable (compression is more 'dramatic') - but - for 'ducking' (the effect desired to eliminate the 'please talk a little louder' problem) - this is more 'dramatic'.

edit: oops - I didnt have the MIC in MX6 set properly - it was disabled. /edit

Note: previously - I would use a GainHQ and adjust compressors output level. Seeing as how there is no meter in APS COmpressor its self - its difficult to 'check up' on if the setting values meant anything other than a reference.
(threshold level in particular)

While it sounds like a great idea... I found MANY dsp configs relied on plugins that were version specific to kX... so, just about every preset I ever D/L to try - either gave me an error (someone saved the preset with card specific info/settings) or plug-ins missing that were *not* included with kX bundle...
By the time I learned I could edit the preset files to remove some of those problems, I didn't need them.

So, I suspect, its usefulness in reality dwindled.

Beside - I see that as a 'crutch' - and feel understanding this stuff - especially for musicians, which kX is really aimed at - is really best in the long run - imho.

On many card models, the codec used on analog rear is better, so you might as well use it.

But with this DSP i dont have sound in windows on kx wave 0/1 and also ventrilo i have to set on kx 4/5.
When i set windows to 4/5 than MP3 sounds terrible but in the game is ok.

Russ You are GURU here which DSP will be better?
My old http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/1065/tomq3.jpg
or this from Maddogg6: http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/7272/duckerdspcp2.jpg

I would use the x4/div4 plugins as in your config, as otherwise the compressor settings are kind of meaningless.

I would use MX6 as in Maddogg6's config (i.e. MAIN and REC outputs), just because that is the more normal way to use it, except I am not sure why he has Virtual5.1 connected to both the compressor and MX6 (I have not read this whole thread, so maybe I missed something). Same thing goes with FxBus 0/1 in your config (I am not sure why you have it connected to both)...

Personally, I wouldn't use the side chain inputs of the compressor at all, and would just connect FxBus 0/1 directly to MX6 (are you having that much trouble hearing people speak in your VOIP app? In the games I play, I think I would prefer to be sure that I hear all the game sounds (footsteps, etc) over teammates talking. If you have Ventrillo set to use kX Wave 4/5, then I really do not see any purpose for using the side chain inputs).

In any case, a lot of it is personal preference, so try different things and see what you like the best.
