sb live! 5.1 digital

hi guys. i know this may have been asked before but after weeks of fiddiling and searching i still cant find a definte answer, hoping someone here can help.

i have an sb live! detected as sb0600. i am using windows vista home premium. the card has the following color jacks (if this helps):
black, green, blue, pink, orange. i want to have this soundcard plug into my pioneer digital receiver.

i have a mono plug -> single rca connecting the orange port to the coxial dig in of my receiver.

i am getting some sound from the card but it is very werid.

fL and fR work no problems
C appears to be fR and fL together
and rear comes from the front also

does anyone know if this soundcard can actually do this? if so, what settings do i need? i know it worked in xp with the creative drivers and i have tried using them with no success.

thanks

under what conditions is this occurring? - durring a game, a 'surround' movie played on your PC?

If its for 'surround' media - as in 'AC3' encoded (5.1 audio compressed to 2 channels of digital audio stream)....

it seems you are beta testing that ....

SB0220 SB Live 5.1 Digital soundcard
I don't see where to start new thread so am posting as reply.
Download info for your driver says not w98se; but faq says that w98se is supported.
Is or isn't?
I tried to activate download link (several times) and apparently doesn't work w/98se???

I am checking out kX 'cause don't have original cd and can't find Creative drivers for said. Not detected in windows but detected and WORKS in LINUX.
'
In your supported list sb0220 sb022x is said to be partially supported.
What are my options? Any help/hope???

I dont recall what version of kX dropped Win98SE support, but Im pretty sure it was supported in the last 'official' release of kX (V3537). kX is now at V3539 - but there were several version of V3538 (G, H, I, J, K, L, M) too, that it may have changed in there some where... BUT.. IIRC, there are issues with SB0220... search the kX forum(S) for 'SB0220' - issues that may still be a problem for you. Maybe someone with an SB0220 can say for certain.

Where's my quote?
Anyway, kX blue screened my 98se so doesn't boot w/startup disc, etc.- Creative sb 0220 indeed must have some issues. [The card was detected and works ok 4 me (2 speakers) w/ubuntu linux - that's it for windows w/me - no more windows. Free!!!] Thank you kX! And thank you for the reply!

If Windows cannot detect you card, then kX will not work.
The first thing you need to do is to get Windows to detect the card.

The last version of kX to support Win98SE/ME was 3538h, but it is buggy on Win98SE/ME. 3537 is probably the best version to use with that OS (but may not be fully compatible with that card model).

As for the Creative driver, you need to know the specific model number (as determined by the serial number (on the sticker on the back of the card)) to know which driver to use.

You can find some ISO's of (some of) the original driver cd's here:
BadBoyforum Profile, BadBoyforum Details - FileFront.com

If the driver from Creative's web site does not work, then I would guess that you want the driver for the SB Live! 5.1 (SB0228).

I TRIED putting card in another slot, add new hardware, Multimedia/Audio, Sys. properties/device manager - how else can I get W98 to see the card??

Thank you for that info (and the above AND below)!

MOD # 0220; SER # MSB 0220240428478 ? So, does that confirm that I look for a driver for SB 0220? Or is there something -else- that I'm missing?

Hmmm... Device Manager does not see it at all (any unknown devices shown?)?

You could try to boot into Safe Mode, and look in Device Manager to see if there are any phantom devices shown (i.e. hardware listed that you do not have, or the same hardware listed multiple times, etc.). Sometimes that can prevent Windows from detecting things correctly.

"MSB 0220240428478"

Apparently it is a SB0220, but I do not think Creative made a retail version of the SB0220 (I do know that there is an OEM version). The only retail SB022x models (or at least not listed as OEM models on the Creative Labs Sound Blaster products list) that I know of are: SB0222, SB0223, SB0224, SB0226, SB0228, and SB0229.

According to the Creative Labs web site, the following driver is for the SB0220 (Soundblaster Live! Player 5.1 OEM) for Windows 95/98:
