Installation Error: ksxskin.ksx (?) missing
Hi there,
I am running an average system (E 6400, 2 gig RAM, X1900XT) with a Creative Soundblaster Audigy. I all works fine, I get nice 5.1 sound in NfS etc. My problem occurs in Battlefield 2: The radio messages (automatic and TS) have an echo and sound like: "E-E-E-NE-MY-MY SPOT-T-T-T-ED!" Normal sounds (gun, walking) are OK. Therefore I downloaded the KX drivers from 2 different mirrors but get the same installation error. During the process, I hit "cancel" when asked for the VST plugin location. Then, the installation stops and it says that he could not find the ksxskin.ksx (or sth like that) file and I should re-run setup. As I said, got the file from different locations, tried erasing Creative drivers first, then tried leaving them on the machine, nothing helps. Do you know how to solve that issue??? ![]() Thanks for any help!!!

This typically occures when the driver installer cannot really find the kX compatible device. There're zillion of different "Soundblaster Audigy" models and not all of those "audigies" are supported by kX. So you'd better first check the compability list: kX Project: Knowledgebase: kX Soundblaster Compatibility List Besides, also be sure you are installing the right driver version for the right Windows version (98SE/W2K/XP/Vista/ReactOS etc..) (when the installation goes fine you see something like "Model bla-bla-bla found - install?" before it asks for the VST folder. If not - then something went wrong (incompatible soundcard, incompatible OS or both). The actuall error message also depends on your Windows version and corresponding OS settings (for example make also sure you're installing under "Administrator" rights)) In addition, if you're more likely to use your soundcard for games (just my guess) - i hardly do not recommend you to use kX - it's sad you have problems with manufacturer's driver - but, believe me, it is not yet the reason to switch to kX - you'll gain likely nothing (with very very few exceptions). Last edited by Max M.; Oct 16, 2007 at 07:45 AM. |

Max,
thank you for your quick help. I guess the reason is the incompatibiliy of my soundcard. Is there a way I can find out what the exact type of my card is? Or do you know other alternative drivers for the gamerīs needs? |
