3539 - Sonar audio hickups
I recently installed 3539. Now, an earlier created project in Sonar will not play normally. As long as one of the tracks is armed for recording, the audio will stutter on some of the transitions between audio clips (for instance, a clip on track 2 takes over from a clip on track 1 --> stutter). The stuttering also occurs right after playing/recording is started. The rate of the stuttering is clearly related to the ASIO latency (21 ms --> slower stutter, 8ms --> faster stutter).
When none of the tracks are armed for recording, playing results in a continuous stutter, so I can't hear anything anymore. I already tried reinstalling (3539 + ProFX plugins) but it did not change anything. Can anyone suggest some things to try? Thanks! |

Have you tried the different asio modes?

I haven't updated kX to 3539 but here are my thoughts..
1) your system has likely changed along with kX driver in some other way as well.. updated anti-virus, software firewall.... shut off your internet and disable all those un-related services by CTRL-ALT-DEL (Im assuming your in winXP too here, I dont have vista either) - I prevent all things in the STARTUP Start menu from running for Sonar use, things like Quicktime (iTunes has 3 services running IIRC) , Adobe Acrobat (acrotray.exe)etc... I basically do a simple system optimization before running Sonar. DX(i) or VST(i) 's ?????? 2A) does it stop if you archive some tracks and/or freeze any software synths? 2B) can you pin point it to a particular software synth, some are CPU hogs - I notice some DX effects and synths to be more taxing on my system than VST - as a general rule of thumb - but it's quite possibly just my perceptions... 3) I get best performance from kX ASIO in its default SYNC mode (ASIO Control Panel) - and can cause this to happen when I change it. Thats not to say this stuttering never happens anyway... and there have been times I simply restart Sonar to ..erm.. fix it.... but I convinced its either a particular VST(i) or my system running out of resources. Sorry if I just stated the obvious, its all I can come up with... |

Another possible cause... Sonar 6 has a 'ASIO REPORTED LATENCY' adjustment on the OPTIONS/AUDIO.../Advanced Tab - that when enabled for the kX ASIO Driver (checked, and with default values for Samples and Offset) that, when Dis-arming RECORD on an audio track after recording can cause stuttering or silence (silence when starting playback/record where no audio data exists - stuttering when starting PB/REC where audio does exists/not-archived/not-muted)
