That looks correct
Looks like you customized the kX DSP? (no master record slider, but maybe a vista thing, I dont have vista) Can you post a pic of your DSP? if you did not customize your DSP, please post a pic of the kX Mixer AC97 page. |

Hmmm..
A couple of things - 1) are you using kX WAVE 0/1 as the recording device? 2) did you try with the MIC unmuted on kX AC97 page? 3) what are your trying to record with? |

make sure kX WAVE 0/1 is the default recording device in windows control panel.
I assume teamspeak is using the windows default.. which can also depend on the windows mixer, according to the quoted text above from the 3539 kX release notes... |

Ok, notice how it says 'SOUND MAX'...thats not a KX device...
I think thats the problem, but, I dont have vista.... but you need a KX device... Any other place to specify what sound card to use for recording..?? |

the easy fix is to move the mic to the onboard audios' mic input, and teamspeak should work... then... but not using kX tho...

I am reading that windows vista (like past versions of windows) will use the last installed device as the default..
to change this in WinXP, you goto the control panel/Sound and Audio devices/Audio tab - and a drop down shows all wave devices that can be set as 'default' for playback and recording - as in what windows will use in application, like what windows sound recorder would use. Some applications allow specifying what device to use instead of windows default (kinda suprised teamspeak doesnt allow specifying a device), but its a good idea to figure this out now.... it will likely be a problem later, as you havent 'fixed' anything, just worked around this not knowing how to set windows to use kX instead of soundmax. I cant find anything showing how to change default devices in vista...hmmm. except through registry here Setting Default Sound Device programmatically in Vista - MSDN Forums edit according to this.... its not possible... F@#$Kin M$... no need to ask why I havent 'upgraded' to vista... Gadgetophile » Vista Audio Device Management: Sucky? OK... you could un-install KX - and re-install it, so it the most recent device, and thus kX would be the default... or change the registry.. (erm, not for the sqeemish) Last edited by Maddogg6; Nov 8, 2007 at 10:16 PM. Reason: fixeed some mistakes, added info |

There is a button that says "Set Default" in that pic you posted, so I would guess that it can be used to set the default device (it is greyed out in the picture, but that is probably because the device that is selected is already set as the default device).
Also, there appears to be some other devices not shown in the picture (i.e. scroll bar is at top), so maybe kX is down there some where (you need to set kX as default device as MD6 stated). I am curious as to why "Creative SB Live! Series" is listed (although it shows that it is disabled)... It seems that maybe you did not completely remove Creative Labs drivers before installing kX? Also, the Master Recording Level slider only shows when epilog is loaded, so I wonder what DSP config you are using... (although I am not familair with Vista either, so maybe it is a Vista thing, or maybe it has something to do with the fact that kX is not the default device). |

"modified kX Project drivers"? In what way are they modified?
What version of kX are you using? Which sound card do you have? What Operating System (OS) are you using? See the following guide: MD6 - KX Mic Setup(default DSP config) |

in ASIO like Cubase or Sonar or in WDM - like Skype or Windows audio recorder?
In the case of ASIO (with default DSP config) - try changing ASIO inputs in Cubase/Sonar (for me, IIRC AC97 was ASIO INPUT 2/3 - as it connects to ASIO 2/3 on epilog in default kX DSP config) In the case of WDM - make sure AC97 record level is adjusted in kX Mixer RECORD page. Other than that - more info would be needed. |

It would be better if someone that is using Vista and kX (and can record successfully) could reply, as for those of us without Vista, we can only guess at the correct Windows settings that should be used.
The bottom line is that kX Wave 0/1 (it may be called Master Mixer in Vista, or maybe just Wave In (I do not know)?) needs to be selected as the recording source either in your Recording software, or as the default recording device in Windows (in the audio control panel). In your previous picture of your recording devices (Windows), it appears that your SoundMax audio was set as the default for recording and not kX, so unless you are choosing a different device in your recording software, it is not going to work. Aside from the above, kX needs to be configured as in the guide, to record from the MIC (using kX)... If you can post screen-shots of your DSP config, the Recording page of kxmixer, and the AC97 page of kxmixer, then we can verify kX's settings. (The AC97 page looked OK in your previous picture, but one of your pictures is not loading, so I cannot verify anything else). <edit> The other picture finally loaded, and it is the recording page. It looks OK as well, except that the Master Recording level slider is missing and I am not sure why that is (it is possible that it is not used in Vista but I do not know)... <eidt> This isn't really any new info (sorry), but you have not given as any new info to work with... i.e. (something like the following) ---------------------------- Wave In Creative SB Live! Series Working ---------------------------- If you go into the properties for the above, you will see something like the following for "Controller Information": ---------------------------- Creative SB Live! Series Creative Labs - kX Project ---------------------------- Below the above is a drop down box where you can choose to enable/disable the device, etc (the device would likely have to be enabled before you would be able to set it as the default device). Also, there is a "Levels" tab which you would probably use to adjust the Master Recording level (assuming that the Master Recording slider in kxmixer is missing (as mentioned previously) or does not work (Eugene did say that some sliders may be missing or may not be functional in kxmixer with Vista, so I would guess that is the case with the Master Recording Level Slider (as well as some others))). |
