Audigy Platinum crackles....can't seem to fix

After I decided to do a complete re-install of my computer system I had to get the latest drivers for my Audigy Platinum 1 card. It seems after I installed Creative's latest set of drivers I noticed that when I would play a game, the audio would be very choppy, with light crackling/fuzzy sounds. I've tried finding older Audigy drivers to revert to with no luck, and then I decided to try the Kx drivers....I am STILL getting crackling sounds when I go into Age of Empires III.....I don't hear crackling when just playing music on my computer, only in games. Is my card just fried? I don't really have the money right now to buy a new sound card, so I'd like to try and fix the one I have. Here are my specs:

Athlon 4000+
Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF-9 motherboard
1.5 gigs ram
Windows XP
SB Audigy Platinum
Using integrated mobo graphics
