Is "bit perfection" in Vista possible over SPDIF?
Hi, I have no interest in the DAC of any of the suppored cards. I've searched high and low for a simple card that can a.) play music files at their native sampling rate (44.1 kHz) and pass ac3/dts to the receiver @ 48 kHz over SPIDF.
Can the kxproject with any of the supported cards do this for me? I've heard it said that any Creative card below the X-fi resamples music files to 48. But, does that apply only if using the Creative drivers? Or, is there something in the hardware/firmware of the card does this unwanted resampling? Thanks! Not sure if it's absalutely nessary to mention.
but i know with the realtek ALC88x HD audio solution with EITHER, DDLive! or DTS-Connect allow for PCM stereo through spdif at any selected khz you want by manually selecting ONLY the ones you want to (by default vista and the driver will play through what you have selected for the highest khz), with either DDlive or dtsconnet selected, it will i must add, turn any audio format played back through in a 5.1 channel mode.... course it's your preference. As well as pass through which ever freqency you wish over spdif as well... pretty straight forward and easy to use to boot.

Yeah, I heard about that Realtek 8xx series. I'm not out for whole new motherboard, so I was hoping a simple card could achieve the same thing. So, no one knows about the combination of Vista, Creative card, kX Project, and SPDIF for bit perfection?

providing the driver still works as it does with XP - you can enable direc SPDIF recording, which bypasses the DSP, allowing you to record bit-accurate SPDIF through WDM - but you need to set the Sample rate correctly- if the source signal is 44.1, you must set it to 44.1, other wise you'll get a bit of a mess on the other end
EDIT: this will only work on 10k2 based (Audigy series). the 10k1 based (Live/APS) can't do this

Great. So, if I were to set the rate at 44.1, would ac3/dts be passed @ 48 without changing driver settings?

sorry my mistake, i mis-read your post
you can record bit-accurate direct to disk, but all outputs are 48k, so any signals will be resampled
