Smallest Kx compatible sound card
Hey all
I've been researching for a couple weeks now trying to find the smallest size kx-compatible sound card for my carpc. To the best of my knowledge, the smallest is either the audigy 2 value or audigy 4 non-pro. I know these are not fully supported, but i have an audigy 2 value in my main PC and it seems like it can do everything i need from the kx drivers (mostly just an advanced equilizer w/ a good SNR and output voltage). The ZS notebook doesnt work either because by the time you put it into a pci to pcmcia its bigger than an audigy 2. Now before i go buy a new audigy 4, does anyone else know of a smaller kx-compatible card? Its hard to research this because of small differences from chip to chip etc. Also, what is NOT compatible in Kx project regarding these 2 cards? Thanks |

The kX Compatibility chart..
kX Project: Knowledgebase: kX Soundblaster Compatibility List Lists A4 as 'partially supported - I2S Codec Present, reported to work,' And a forum search may come up with more up to date details on that cards compatibility. but dont search 'A4', thats too 'short' of a search string, so search 'audigy 4' or 'SB0610 |

smallest card - are you talking about a half-height one for a low profile rack case, or one that's relatively short? iirc most kX compatible cards are relatively similiar in size

optimally, the audigy SE (SB0570) among others would be best. Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE SB0570LPVP 5.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Low-Profile Sound Card - OEM however, they are not compatible with kx at all, which stinks. it's also understandable though. even so, i'll keep looking. like you said, it seems every compatible kx card is the same size (fairly large), save for the two i mentioned and the ZS notebook. |

The smallest card I know is the SoundBlaster PCI512, which is an old 10k1 with 4.1 sound. But I doubt you can get one these days - maybe a used one.

Hmm, it looks like the 512 is about the same size as the A2 value and A4

now that I think about it.... to me...
it kinda makes sense that all kX compatable cards will be *about* the same size.. Given the hardware design must all be similar so most of the driver code can be functional. Because some of the code was released by CL under NDA to Eugene, that code must stay some what portable for kX compatibility - which *probably* equates to very similar hardware designs. I dunno, just my thoughts, but Ive been wrong plenty times before... |

Make sure that you search the forum for any potential issues with each card before making your choice.
i.e. IIRC, WaveHQ is not currently supported on the A4 (SB0610) and A2 Value (SB0400). |
