Thumbs Up! kx a lifesaver for the last couple years... moving on.

Just like to say my thanks for this great set of drivers. They have allowed me to get true multichannel recording done for the last couple years, using old scrap sound cards. Very happy with the results. Sadly, my needs have exceeded what even the mighty kx and some heavily soldered soundblasters can do, and I'm moving on. I'm going to be switching to the Tascam US-1641. 8 mic pre's, 2 instrument/line ins, 4 line ins, 4 line outs, digital in/out... All in a 1U rack over USB 2.0. This will keep me running well for quite some time...

Latencies of 4 ms have been reported as well. Can't wait to get this thing plugged in...

Hmm, itīs on you. Digital and analogue Expansion can be done by yourself, if you have some skill about electronics. I now have 5 different Live! and Audigy cards running in different computers and there will be more kX rules!

I'll still be supporting kX in the forums however

Well, as I've been running for a while with 8 channels, there is little more I could do (yes, an i2s A/D might get me 2 more channels, but I would like more channles than that, and I need to stay in the ASIO realm, so I can't actually use multiple cards/computers for more. Sync is very important as I'm sometimes recording entire sessions (4-6 hours or so).

For the small cost of the Tascam unit (<$400), i will get 16 channels of 24/96, including some quality pre-amps and multiple outs. kX, for me, was a hold over until an affordable module like this became available.

Audigy1 cards give you up to 14 simultaneous inputs and they are perfectly in sync . 6-hour sessions are no problem if the rest of the system runs stable.

Are you sure about this, I have read that some units can't record all its inputs discretely at its max advertised sample rates, ??
Yes, at 24/44.1 - but not at 24/96... but which units suffered from this was not mentioned.

Quote:
* 16 simultaneous Inputs
* 4 Simultaneous Outputs
* 14 x 4 Analog Input/Output
* Stereo S/PDIF Digital Input/Output
* 8 XLR Mic Inputs with Phantom Power
* USB 2.0 Computer Interface
* Up to 96kHz/24-bit Audio Resolution
* Zero-latency Hardware Monitoring
* Independent Monitor and Headphone Outputs
* 16-channel MIDI Input and Output
* Includes Steinberg Cubase LE4 and TASCAM Continuous Velocity Piano
* ASIO and Core Audio support for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X
* Weight: 3.2kg / 7.1 lb
* Dimensions (WxDxH): 19" x 11.1" x 1.74" (482.6mm x 280mm x 44mm)
No where in those specs does it say 16 discrete inputs at 24/96.
'Simultaneous' <> discrete. And 'up to 24/96' makes me a little suspicious.

I would double check to be certain before purchasing anyway.

But if you already ordered - please come back and post your results.

I've moved too but not because I want to. I'm now on Vista 64 bits so I can't install the kX drivers.
