Audio cuts off while playing Oblivion

I'm using a SoundBlaster Live! Value card and when I use kX drivers with Oblivion, after a while the sound will cut off and be replaced with low buzzing noises. If I play some random amount of sounds after this happens the audio comes back. I think it might also happen in other games. How do I fix this?

a connector isnt just loose right? sometimes this happens under a certain level of stress on the audio system.

I'm not sure. The reason I switched to kX is because I had a problem with Oblivion (and only Oblivion) having sound problems where all the sound would turn into really annoyingly loud static. kX seems to fix it but introduces this instead.

All of this happened before in a previous install before formatting and I managed to fix the audio cutting off then but I can't remember how to now.

that happens to me with different games, if a connector is tight enough, but loose enough to just disconnect every stressed time.

it happens, but i think this is a common issue with Oblivion as well. someone with an SB LIVE! should help you better as im not sure, theres a couple Kx guys on i think......

Well I do not know anything about that game, but:

Is the CPU usage high at the time? If so, try lowering whatever quality settings the game offers, to try and bring the CPU usage down (i.e. maybe the game is just doing too much for your CPU when the problem happens).

Try turning off hardware acceleration for audio playback (just while playing the game) and see if it makes a difference.

I actually found a thread in bug reports and disabling all my gameports and increasing the buffers seems to have fixed the problem.
