3542 noise floor changed??
Hi
just installed the new drivers, and did a full removel and shutdown between updates, and now with the peek meter i'm registering around -80db, where's before the meter was around -108db. has anything changed??? I'm using an Audigy2 ZS Bulk version.

On which input/output do you see this noise floor? Please post a picture of your DSP and mixer settings.

Same here, default DSP setup and Audigy4.

As above, Default Mixer/DSP setup. just going to Analyzer page and clicking peek meter shows green bars at -80db where's before they were at -108db. no sound output or recording taking place.

Double check the Ins and Outs page of kxmixer and make sure that all of the sliders on the bottom are muted.
With no inputs enabled, and no audio playing, you should not see anything on the peak plugin (i.e. it reads -Inf for me). Use peak plugins to probe where in the DSP the signal is originating from (check the Reverb plugin, FxBus, and prolog (and p16v with 10k2 cards)) Last edited by Russ; May 29, 2008 at 10:25 PM. |

When i connected a peak meter to FXbusX (the new default) it read -90db, and when i sttached it to the surrounder+ is read the -80db. so looks like something has changed

Exactly, noise begins from FXbus and increasing after Surrounder+. All sliders are double-checked.

OK, I have a 10k1 card so FxBusX is not the default for me (and I cannot really test it). I would use peak plugins to try and figure out which specific FxBusX channels the signal is coming from (I would check them all). I would also try and see if any controls have an effect on it (i.e. the send levels in kX Router, etc).

I've found that none of the controls affect it, i've unmuted and scrolled them all on every page

Ahh, well I would still try and figure out which specific FxBusX channels the signal is coming from.
1) It is more info to give Eugene. 2) If it is channels that you do not use normally, you can just disconnect them (or maybe figure out some other workaround). Last edited by Russ; May 30, 2008 at 11:12 PM. |

i'd suggest checking it with profx src plugins. doesn't mean it should differ, but still better to check

Ok, this is problem of FXbusX, not FXbus, just checked. Noise comes at least from top 8 channels (fxbus0-7), connected directly to peak meter.

Hmm, I wonder if this is the same noise that some people reported with 3541? Although if it is related to the new FxBusX code, then I guess it would not be.
The fact that it is coming from multiple channels explains why the level increases after Surrounder (since xrouting and Surrounder mix some channels together). BTW: It might be easier to check using ProFX:Peak8 plugins (i.e. with 2 of them you can see all 32 channels at same time). hm... just checked myself, and yeah it's definitely new FXBusX problem. got around -90db with my audigy2 plat and -inf with profx.
and it's channels FXbus 0 - 9 also profx:PeekX isn't appropriate here, cause it only registers sound > -70db |

I see, it looks as though it is outputting a constant value of 0x4000, which equals approx. -90 dB. Last edited by Russ; May 30, 2008 at 11:47 PM. |

perhaps this noise is caused by incorrect 24-bit conversion code in the FXBusX...
it was supposed to handle 24-bit data transmitted over two audio channels (FXBus + FXBus2) with appropriate ANDXOR operation. just replace FXBusX with FXBus - and everything will be fine note that 24-bit playback [WinMM] will no longer work for you... I'll try to fix this problem in the next driver release E. |
