kX Driver and serious Windows problems

Hey guys,

I'm coming back to the forum after a while with some serious issues...Windows issues I'd say. About two years back I used the kX drivers with Guitar Rig 2 and all was fine. Yesterday my bedroom amp crashed and I jumped on the PC, installed GR3 (I had it for some time, just not installed) and the kXDrivers (prior to that I eliminated the original SB Live! drivers...that's my soundcard).

Ok all set...guitar in thru the mic port (bad sound, but at least it's some sound)...and I cannot get it to ring. Nothing. I clicked and unclicked, muted and unmuted a gazzillion of option in the kx Interface, no-thing. No guitar sound.

Reversed to the original SB Drivers and all my guitars sound ok, but the latency is killing me. Ok so it's not a guitar / cable / input issue. Reinstalled kX Drivers...nothing...please help !??!

Ok here comes the ugly part. I decided to go back to the SB Live drv yet again. So I uninstall KX, reinstall the SB Live package and all is fine. However, I still see the KX Program Group with Uninstall option, so in one of the moments of great inspiration I decide to hit Uninstall again. Well...all audio crashes completely. I cannot do anything anymore. If I try to uninstall/reinstall the SB Live package I get the errror "An event was unable to invoke any of the subscribers".

I'm stuck. All my audio capabilities are off now on the PC. Errors and errors.

Funny enough, I can still reinstall kx Drivers, but I still get no sound out of my guitars. And if I try to reverse to SB package, it's no longer possible.

Please advise, I spent many hours last nite trying to do something but in the end gave it up.

Thanks in advance !!

What version of kX did you install?

Are you using ASIO?

What specific model sound card do you have? If it is a 5.1 model, are you aware of the ASIO mapping issue that exists with 5.1 models?

Which port are you connecting to (i.e. MIC on rear of card, or some LiveDrive input?)?

Is the issue only with Guitar Rig (i.e. have you tried recording using other programs?)?

You said you used kX successfully in the past, does this mean that you know kX well enough to be sure that it is setup correctly for recording, etc?

The more info you can give us, the easier it would be for us to help (since different setups would be used for ASIO recording vs MME recording, etc)...

As for your install/uninstall problems, I would suggest using a program like DriverCleaner Pro to completely remove both drivers, and then only install whichever driver you are going to use.

Hello Russ,

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I spent the whole day yesterday but in the end got everything right.

I didn't use Drive Cleaner, but I cleared the registry keys that had anything to do with Install/Uninstalling the drivers. This because according to what I read, the error was an installer error, so I tried eliminating the registry keys and it worked.

I managed to get sound out of the guitar as well, I was going too much from my memory and was missing some elements (AC97 setup).

In the end got the guitar thru GR3 but hated the sound. I suppose I need a DI Box and will get a cheap one, but I don't have one available so I reverted to the SB Live ! drivers.

So for now all is fine. All the best !
