What Audigy 2 do I have ?
This one is very weird.
First, I have not attempted anything KX yet, because I am having a royal pain getting the SB A2 ???? installed. I just got a used Audigy 2 ZS (SB0350) card (no CD) for my home pc ... and it has no MIDI connector or 1394 port. WHAT ??? Is it really a A2ZS ? Based on the In and Outs on the cards, it's a Audigy 2 Value, but the card itself says SB0350 NOT SB0400. Weird. I DL the ISO for the Audigy 2 ZS Install CD, not knowing any problems would arise. All sorts of problems, including the Install saying the card was NOT a Audigy 2 ZS. I don't have net at home, so it was hard to trouble shoot. I checked the Creative manual (CHM file) for Value ... nothing displays ... utterly useless. Anybody have any ideas ? I had read yesterday, that it was possible to record from 2 input ports (Line In + AUX) at the same time using KX. This really interests me. |

Itīs not a fake but a downgraded A2, itīs the A2Value SB0400 and it has no MIDI-port, but MIDI capabilities. Check kX-project support site by TravelRec. , there is a description how to mod this card.

Looks like its a OEM version SB0359 for HP. I checked the serial number.
The question is will the HP drivers for the SB0359 work on my Dell ? There is a Dell OEM SB0358. Would those drivers work ? I am wondering if I should investigate KX Project drivers .... does it make the original drivers obsolete, and runs on its owen, or on top of ??? I will investigate further the whole KX world of possibilities. Thanks for everyone's help, so far. |

If it is an OEM HP model, then that is the driver that you should use (if not using kX).
kX is a stand-alone driver, and as such does not need anything from other drivers to work, but you should be able to use *some* things from the original driver (i.e. soundfonts (kX does not include any), or any application software that you might like (wave editors, media players, etc)) if you so desire. Note that while kX offers some functionality that likely cannot be done with the original driver, it also may be lacking some things offered by the original driver (EAX for example). most OEM cards lose specific features, especially 1394 and midi to save cost - if it is an SB0359, you should have no problems with kX - check your device manager to see if it shows up there (usually as an unknown device) - if it doesn't (and they sometimes won't) the kX installer won't see it - move the card to another PCI slot and try again
oh and Maddog - the firewire connection on the card that connects to the live drive will also work with a front panel connection too (this was the case with my old system)
