Alternatives to kX Project drivers
We've all seen the threads littering this forum requesting drivers for Vista x64sp1, and while PeerGuardian has proved it's possible to use a unsigned driver successfully (If with a little extra effort), this obviously isn't a priority - and that's understandable.
It does mean that we can't use the nice dsp editor we've grown used to on XP... No more easy DJing, no more muting everything else when someone is talking in voice chat... Things like that. For my problems, I know there are a few expensive solutions, like getting a x-fi card and using Smart Volume Management (Gimpy solution) or getting another card and using hardware to do the job we did with components in the dsp. What I am interested to know, however, is if anyone has found software or creative alternatives to things like this. I suppose the assumption is naive, but since Vista now runs on a software mixer, shouldn't it be possible for apps to do the same things before sound even really hits the card? If you've seen a app or come up with a solution that has replaced functionality you relied on kX drivers for, share it with everyone else here!

Re: Alternatives to kX Project drivers
I'm not sure I understood your post. You mean you need something equivalent to kx's functionalities for vista x64?

Of course I'd like to find a fully software mixer and dsp to replace kX's dsp, but well, if someone else has found a suggestion they haven't shared, they do, and another someone benefits; the goal of this thread will have been met. =) Me, I've worked around it a bit by enabling my on-board sound and routing voip through it to my headphones, and out my soundblaster for game and music. Rather bland, but fortunately functional. |

Re: Alternatives to kX Project drivers
Well, you could check the e-mu 0404 pci card, although not as powerful as kx, emu's drivers may also do what you need and they support vista x64.
