DVD playing slowed down

At first I didn't think it was kx-related, but I'm beginning to doubt a little... Is anyone else experiencing 'slow' (like, say, a bit "stroboscopic") dvd playing using PowerDVD or WinDVD and Kx?

If anyone else has or had the same problem, I will give more infos about my system and settings, but right now I don't feel it's worth making an issue of something that might be completely kx-unrelated!!!

Your problem look like mine:
After startup of Windows it takes about 5 to 10 minutes before the CPU usage drops below 100%.
After that it will gradually lower to about 5% on my Pentium III 800MHz with XP-pro.
During this time I can play CD's but the sound stutters.
How much is your CPU usage? (Ctrl-Alt-Del performance-tab)
I wonder if this is a KX-driver problem and will it be solved?

Pissed It IS a cpu-usage problem!!

Thanks for your help!

Weird... The first time that it happened, I had actually closed every possible application and, being sure that in these conditions it couldn't be a CPU usage problem, I DIDN'T EVEN CHECK!!

Stupid me.

Well, guess what, IT IS A CPU USAGE PROBLEM! Now, the only thing that changed in my configuration lately is the installation of the kxdrivers. And I'm beginning to understand why it's also been increasingly difficult to burn audio cd's at full speed, lately!

So my next question will, of course, be:

**********************************************
*** How can I lower the CPU usage of the kxdrivers? ***
**********************************************

My config: AMD Athlon 1000mhz, latest kxdrivers, Win2000 SP3, WinDVD.

Please help! I'm sure this miracle of a driver can actually be a little less cpupower-hungry.

Unloading the kxmixer

It doesn't change anything, Or maybe it makes a very tiny difference, but the "stroboscobic" effect due to the cpu overload is still there. By unloading I assumed you meant closing the kxmixer (removing it from the systray). I'm traying to test several other DVD players right now to see if some of them are less cpu hungry. I will let you know if it makes any difference.

Hi Pierre and Eugene,

I tried the same but no changes, cpu between 7 and 12%.
I also noticed that the pc takes much longer to start up, even before the login screen it is already very slow.
In the taskmanager there are no processes visible that use any cpu.
But still the cpu-percentage is not 0, at least this does not look like Windows knows what's going on.
