Sound delay with 5.1 speakers, ONKYO reciever and onboard sound card

Hey guys.
For a while I have been having quite an annoying sound problem.
I have 5.1 "Jamo" surround speakers with a subwoofer, connected to an ONKYO TX-SR500E reciever, which is connected through SPDIF optical cable, and through regular Coaxial cable to my onboard sound card (temporarily, so I can switch between them for testing), on my Gigabyte GA-PE667 Ultra motherboard. (a little long I know )
The problem is- whenever I try to play a sound from my computer, using the SPDIF (optical) connection, it has a half a second delay before it sounds that sound. And that half a second of that sound, it cuts from the sound. For example, when I try to play a song, it shows that the song started playing, but the sound only starts half a second later..
And that's really bugging me, especially with sort sounds, that I don't hear at all through this optical connection.

I was told that this delay happens because I am using an onboard sound card, and not a regular one, with its own processor. (Is this true?)

Recently, a friend told me that your program, the "KX Project", could fix that delay problem, so I downloaded it, and it turned out to be actual sound drivers, but I installed it anyway (although I already have my motherboard sound drivers), but it did not fix my problem.

Can you please help me?

Thanks very much for reading this.

I'm afraid this is a problem with your 'ONKYO TX-SR500E reciever', not a driver problem

And how do you think "kX" is relaited to your mobo's Ac97? please, visit kxproject.com and check what soundcard models it is intended for...

Yeah I guess you may be right..
I really did not check your website for the intended models.
I was just told that your program could fix my delay problem that's all.

Thank you all guys anyway, you're awesome
