More Inputs Please!

Is there any way to enable the aux2 and line2 inputs of the live! card, without buying a liveDrive? That is, can you connect something to some pins somewhere?

yes, on the AUD_EXT connector (40 pins on the card) you have spdif in a few times... you can connect spdif sources to that...
now you only need an analog to spdif convertor...
I know a good one... it's called a livedrive ;-p

Audio, Noise and pins ........

I'm not sure I'm running a Live at home ........ No Live Drive.

At studio:

System 1:
SB Audigy Platinum w/Live Drive

System 2:
SBLive w/Live Drive

Now were not really happy with Creative at the moment so this is going to change to M-Audio shortly.
Which supports their 16 track true recording interfaces. 16 digital tracks recorded at the same time.

At the present time we are recording with laptop for our "RAW" tracks through two 16 channel mixing boards. Use of a laptop eliminates all electrical "line noise".

Tracks are mixed and mastered on the lattermost mentioned systems.

Which brings me back to your original question ... and my concern noise
If you do find those pins make sure you are using a properly shielded cable for the interface.
A coaxial 100% Bedfoil shield with a drain wire (Belden quality)should suffice.
But remember simply connecting loose wires to these pins will result in unwanted noise.
Which NULLS the point of extra inputs ...

My advise ......... Buy the Live Drive ....

Hope I helped

PPS: ditto Mata Hari

Yes, thanx people. Everything is pointing to a livedrive. Are they expensive? Haven't found any prices. They seem hard to get hold of, or perhaps ive just had bad luck with my searches.

Get a used one. And get a live drive IR if you can spot one because they have 4 mono inputs plus remote control. You can find a used one for around US$60,00 in Brazil. In other countries the price should be even lower...

yep, I think a drivebay thing would seem to be the way to go if you want more inputs. I don't know if they actually make the livedrive units anymore, because the Audigy Platinum took over, and then that'sbeen replaced by the Audigy Platinum 2 ... so check the second-hand market.

I haven't used a LiveDrive, but the Audigy/Audigy2 driveboxes and the livedrive look very similar cosmetically ... on my Audigy1 drivebox, you get an additional four analogue audio ins, which are individually routable in kX ("Aux2" on phonos, "Line2" on a stereo 1/4" jack), the front panel headphones can be treated as yet another individually-addressable stereo out pair, and then you have the SPDIF stereo ins and out, and optical stereo in and out, which are also independent (unless you choose to wire them together with kX).

And of course it's cool to have front-panel mini-MIDI, a headphone volume knob, and a mic input level control. If you move the level control to minimum (so it clicks), the 1/4" socket is a stereo line input, otherwise its a mono mic input.

I'd expect the LiveDrive to be fairly similar, unless anyone knows different.
