Try kX 3541 on Windows 7 Beta1

I install the windows 7 beta1 build7000, and found the kX driver is not compatible with Windows 7 , I try many versions of the kx drivers and finally find a good version for it , try the way I listed below to make it work.

the newest version of kx driver(3545b) is not good for windows 7, it sounds distortion after using sometime(just like the mac version dose). and the master volume on windows mixer cannot work under 3545b, So I try other version and found out that kx 3541 is the best for it . No distortion and even windows mixer can control it(only for the 2.1 set), Try to make the kx mixer work this way below.

1, Cancel the startup of kx mixer.

http://laiba.tianya.cn/laiba/images/...8566/A/1/m.jpg

2, make a shortcut of kx mixer in the install folder to the desktop and right click to select the compatiblility option.

http://laiba.tianya.cn/laiba/images/...8562/A/1/m.jpg

3,select the first option listed.

http://laiba.tianya.cn/laiba/images/...8563/A/1/m.jpg

4,select Vista or XP , I choose Vista, it work fine.

http://laiba.tianya.cn/laiba/images/...8564/A/1/m.jpg

5,OK, save the setting and the kx mixer is working.

http://laiba.tianya.cn/laiba/images/...8565/A/1/m.jpg

Who has a better way please post the reply here and let's discuss it.

Re: Try kX 3541 on Windows 7 Beta1

Hello, I've registered to tell you that 3545b works fine for me, no distortion after a couple of hours of non-stop music. CT4620 here.

thfeng, just follow the instructions. the message about installation failure at the startup is just from the mixer, which should be loaded with compatibility mode. The drivers themselves work fine. Also, check in Playback devices (right click on the speaker icon in the tray) that Wave Out 2/3 is set to be the default device, if not - right click it and set to default. My W7 set Wave Out 6/7 to be the default device, which didn't work. Don't set Master Mixer to the default either, because it breaks internal sound connections.

This does work for getting KXmixer running,(I had to use vista compatability to get it to work) but it still has issues here and it could be my two soundcards, (two different "lives") the windows supplied creative drivers crashed win7 and I had to re-install the os, At least with KX it doesn't crash! I still get an error on boot up about not loading the kx driver correctly, but there's sound.

Creative drivers from Windows Update don't crash my system, but the audio sounds like it's coming from a long PVC tube connected somehow to a metal overdrive set to 300%.

What's the issue with kX? They work fine for me. As we said twice now, the error on boot up comes from the mixer, which tries to load without compatibility mode. It doesn't mean the drivers haven't loaded correctly. I haven't checked ASIO and routing yet, but every standard function works as intended.

Re: Try kX 3541 on Windows 7 Beta1

Actually... today, KX mixer won't load. It says devices not found, reinstall drivers. But there's sound. Distorted sound but sound, and it doesn't crash. The KX drivers are there for both cards. I think the creative drivers crashing is due to having Two live cards in the system..... win7 is not getting that right with CL drivers. Both cards are fine under XP

I'm dual booting XP/Win7 with the same drivers so it's a windows 7 issue.... buggy beta 1 as usual

Re: Try kX 3541 on Windows 7 Beta1

Nah, it's because Windows 7 reinstalled the Creative drivers even though it's listed as kX (is it? Even after reboot?). Dunno how, don't ask me, my kXs stay the way I put them. Distorted sound is the effect of Creative drivers and that's why the mixer won't start (because there are no kX drivers around).

Creative doesn't support Live cards anymore, they're basically abandoned and W7 shouldn't even allow the official drivers to be installed, 'cause they aren't compatible. But, since there's no official alternative, it at least tries to do something to produce a semblance of sound.

It's mostly Creative's fault for not supporting its product. Microsoft, as much as I frown upon their policies, at least tries to do something. Yeah, full compatibility with XP drivers would be better, but let's face it - things move on and we can't expect everything to stay the way it was 6 or 7 years ago.

At least kXs are working. Mostly. ;)

Re: Try kX 3541 on Windows 7 Beta1

From what I can see the creative drivers were not downloaded and installed from windows 7 update..... they caused the initial crash. Wiped the drive and did the second install and didn't allow the sound card driver install....... no sound either but no BSOD. Then I installed KX and messed around getting the mixer to run last night...... it was running but still giving an error on start up, there was sound but music has digital artifacts. Today mixer won't load, sound is just as bad...... I'm not going to mess with it as this machine does what it does very well with XP and KX drivers.

Maybe I'll try win7 on something else someday. I'm not on an upgrade path at the moment, just checking out the free beta.

Re: Try kX 3541 on Windows 7 Beta1

In my case any of the kX versions I've tried works either in "mono" center channel only, or only the front L & R speakers. After running the kX Mixer in compatibility mode, I've tried different DSP configurations, but none of them fix this. Do you know what can I do to get 5.1 sound in W7?

you can set windows audio mixer to fx6/7 to make only the mono certer and the subwoofer work, and fx2/3 for front stereo out

but if you can start kx mixer in compatibility mode, you can use it like in winXP.

I use 5.1 set of soundbox on my SB0060 on win7 right.

Re: Try kX 3541 on Windows 7 Beta1

I couldn't get KX to work with Win 7 32 bit. When it did "work" the sound was bad and KX mixer wouldn't load even with compatability mode used.... The sound was actually better without the KX mixer there at all and just the KX driver. I tried this with several different "live" cards and my Audigy platnum..... The stock drivers from microsoft for the "live" cards would BSOD the system on boot.... at least KX didn't do that!

Time to remove Win 7 and get back to recording......

Re: Try kX 3541 on Windows 7 Beta1

I just installed 3541 and the only problem so far is launching the kxmixer:

"Error initializing your Audio Card
Please reinstall drivers
If you haven't rebooted after setup - please reboot now.
If kX Setup is currently in progress - ignore this message."

Oh well, I set the Master Mixer as default and Windows Volume works alright.

SB Live 5.1, no audio glitches.

The "vista compatibility" doesn't work for me. The kmixer crashes when I launch it this way.
I'm a bit annoyed because my sb live is stuck in stereo. Is there any way to activate the 5.1 without the help of the kmixer ?

Re: Try kX 3541 on Windows 7 Beta1

Problems with my install:

How do I keep the "swap front and rear mode" setting to the front? It keeps it's default to the rear upon PC restart. Keeping it on the default means no sound at all until I start kxmixer and make the change.

In addition, I only see waveout 4/5, 6/7, 8/9 - is that okay?

Using a SB Live! card (CT4670)

I also can't seem to get the kx mixer to load in Win7. Error message: "Kxmixer has encountered a problem and needs to close." Then the kx icon dissappears from the sys tray. I have been using the windows mixer instead. Also, the kx Soundfont window is refusing to load. I have CT4780 with kx3545b. Sound quality is fine. No snap, crackle, pop like my Vista machine. Asio is working in FLStudio.

I will try some of the suggestions and post back in a few days.

Quote:

@papachungo13. Try plugging your speaker into the rear output jack on your sound card. (if your jacks on your sound card are plastic, it will be the black one) Hope that works for you. Works for me. I mean, at least I have sound output.

@enodenots. I'm assuming your having the same problems as the rest of us accessing the the kxmixer.
First I created shortcut to kxmixer on desktop. Then I left click on the shortcut and the kx icon shows up in sys tray. Then I right click on kx icon in sys tray and in the menu go to effects and then click on surrounder. Then the surround window shows on my desktop and I can change speaker settings. If this does not work I guess you can try
Right click on the little speaker in the sys tray (taskbar bottom right of your desktop) and select "adjust audio properties" then click on the "volume tab" and at the bottom you should see "speaker settings." Select "advanced", then you should be able to change your speaker settings in the window that pops up to 5.1 or whatever.

the kx dsp set to default everytime on start, so you have to make a preset on desktop in order to use 5.1 set of soundbox.

Hi all, i've been trying this "compatibility" option but i can't run kxmixer.
I've got sblive! 5.1 (SB0222). After driver installation i can hear sound but i can't kxmixer to load. When i choose "Master mixer" or "Wave out 4/5" i can hear sound from 2 rear speakers, when i choose "Wave out 6/7" i hear sound from 2 front speakers, when i choose "Wave out 8/9" i can hear sound from central speaker and subwoofer. Fortunately if i choose "SPDIF/AC3 Output" i can hear sound from all speakers
It works on 3541 version of driver, but not under 3545b ;(
The kxmixer cannot be run in compatibility mode because there's window with "kX mixer has stopped working. Windows is collecting more information.....blah blah blah."
The software (winamp for example) doesn't recognize 5.1 speaker setup and thinks it's stereo, so i think it's not "full" 5.1 but only "copy" as it's under Vista with my hardware.
If someone ever find how to run kxmixer then please share with me some info. If any1 know how to run "full" 5.1 under Vista or 7 please give info about it.
Thanx.

Thanx.
Completely same problem here, I can not get 5.1 sound, either.

Please help

I have a solution. Right click to kxmixer and select surrounder, select 5.1 under 5.1 setting there is a combobox. select on and please select check box:use subwoofer output and abss redirection.

Now, I can get 5.1 sound with fantastic sound quality from my old Creative 5.1 Live Player sound card. It is fantastic
