Default card configuration... (windows 7) on notebook

Hey; I was wondering what the default dsp config is when the kxmixer has never been run... I'm rockin windows 7 on my laptop; using an audigy 2 zs pcmcia card... when directly compared to my onboard SoundMax Integrated Digital HD Audio this card clearly performs better (especially in bass and treble). My problem is that since I am using windows 7 (sending direct sound to "Master Mixer," (Channels 0/1); and cannot load the kxmixer to access the dsp; I cannot figure out if there is some sort of default EQ built in... would someone please confirm or deny this Remember... I have never been able to load the kxmixer.exe application so I am not sure if that makes any difference.

Also interesting, as mentioned before I am on a notebook; this notebook (lenovo X60T) has the 'bad' Ricoh R/RL/5C476(II) pcmcia controller, that usually when running through any input method but Kernel Streaming will error out after changing songs a few times (running Direct Sound) this causes loud screechy noises... This does NOT happen in windows 7 using Direct Sound Granted; there was a BIOS update I applied a while ago that was supposed to do something for the PCMCIA so it could just be that... I would be interested to hear from others who have the PCMCIA issue who have tried windows 7... Thanks!

Does anyone know the default state of the card in vista then? (with never loading kxmixer at startup)? There have been 135 views and no ideas?! lol

Re: Default card configuration... (windows 7) on notebook

perhaps the lack of response is because before initialization, a 'default' config can not be relied upon...?? unless it is something stored in a ROM on the card, in which case may not be allowed to divulge... ??

I am guessing here - what do I know - really??

Perhaps testing can reveal more than I ever could.

It may be card specific too - and there are many.

Re: Default card configuration... (windows 7) on notebook

I think it also depends on how far kX gets... If kxmixer is not able to run, then how do we know what kX was able to do?

I imagine it is either completely blank (and what you are able to hear is from AC97 codec only), or it is the default kX DSP.

Have you tried to run kxctrl.exe (i.e. "kxctrl.exe --gui")?

Re: Default card configuration... (windows 7) on notebook

thanks for the replies I just tried kxctrl.exe --gui and this is what I receive:

C:\Users\Matt>kxctrl.exe --gui
kX Driver Control Program
Copyright ⌐ Eugene Gavrilov, 2001-2008. All rights reserved.
Error initializing iKX interface (-1 - kX device not found)

So I don't know where to go from that... that message is very similar to the one I get from running kxmixer.exe:

Error initializing your Audio Card
Please reinstall drivers
If you haven't rebooted after setup - please reboot now.
If kX Setup is currently in progress - ignore this message

so basically the kx mixer cannot recognize the driver; it does not 'look' like it is supposed to :/
