Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - Direct SPDIF Recording
Few questions about direct Optical SPDIF recording (in this case Dolby Digital 5.1).
1st. When using the Kx drivers, will direct recording feature still work if using 4GB or even 8GB of memory installed? (even if you have 8GB installed and are using a 32bit OS). What are the main features you lose with Kx drivers when using more the 2GB or memory? 2nd. Do the newest official creative drivers do direct recording when you have bit matched recording enabled? Or does it still do post record work that will destroy an Dolby Digital 5.1 stream? 3rd. Do the Kx drivers have any kind of Dolby Digital encoder like the official drivers? There is also a mod on the official forums for DTS encoder with the official drivers. 4th. When you enable direct SPDIF recording in the kX mixer, what program is suggested to use to record the audio? Or will any problem that is able to access the creative AISO, and set to record SPDIF input, record the direct Dolby Digital 5.1 stream? 5th. When doing a direct SPDIF recording with the Kx drivers are there any issues clipping/peaking/popping when the stream gets too high in volume? I had this kind of problem when recording the DECODED stream from the soundcard. Hoping direct recording mode won't have this issue. Thanks Last edited by SeraphicGate; May 30, 2009 at 12:50 AM. |

Re: Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - Direct Recording
Regarding 3, 4 and 5:
kX does not include any DD encoder. The only kX related thing for DD encoding is redocnekx. For recording, your best bet is probably to use DirectSound or WDM Kernel Streaming. The program used should not make that much of a difference, so long as it supports those interfaces and the correct bit depth and sample rate, etc (unless you know of some program designed for your specific purpose, etc). As far as clipping goes, that really should not be an issue with direct recording of a digital source. |
