Morboth is on a distinguished road

Despair and wrath are mingled in my head as a result of upgrading to 3545b

Well, maybe I did exaggerate a little , but the thing is, I had my Kx drivers updated, from 3538 (or something like that), to the latest version, 3545b.

Now, the thing is, not only does Kx insist in that I restore the Device settings with about four kind popup windows every time I access my OS (Windows XP Professional 32-Bit), it doesn't even allow me to do so, as when I reset the Device Settings the same popup appears...

Great, onwards to the next problem...

After months of tweaking my former version I had striken the perfect balance, but my old configuration is gone with the new version in place, and therefore everything I had done is now lost (if someone would be so kind to assist me in tweaking my DSP it would be greatly appreciated).

Also, I haven't got any soundfont, and if my memory fails me not I had got some for the previous version, where can I get them?

Anyway, if someone can help me get out of this debacle, then he or she will have my eternal gratitude (yeah, I know it's not much of a prize, but hey! it's the best I can do )

I'm no pro at this but I'll see what I can answer for you.

First, real quick,,, no sound fonts supplied with KX, I don't believe there ever was so you must have downloaded those that you had before. From what I've read they are readily available on-line but haven't gone to find any yet.

Now, the reset deal........ if you open KX mixer and right click on it there is a option in the drop down box to "reset global settings" if you do that it should take with no problems and not give you the warning on boot. You will get a question box, I believe, that you have to answer "yes" to when you do this but after that there should be no problems,

If this is the option you have tried...... (there is another "reset" option, I don't think it's for this problem) and it didn't work maybe you got a botched install. Did you uninstall the old version first?

About tweaking your DSP ? .... still trying to get mine setup, so not much help there, sorry. But what are you trying to set up there?

Re: Despair and wrath are mingled in my head as a result of upgrading to 3545b

About the reset thing... well, I did just that, but Kx in response would just throw at me another nice bunch of 4 popups telling me to Reset the Global Settings (which was the very thing I was doing!!)

I also tried with resetting the Device Settings, but to no avail.

A botched install? How so? Please tell me how to uninstall Kx completely... maybe that's the issue.

About the DSP issue... I was trying to set up the Equalizer in substitution of the Default "Timbre" (I don't know how Kx names this in English).

Thanks pal, it's good to see that at least somebody did care for my problem

Well, with those results I would think you still have remnants of the older version along with the new. KX has it's own "uninstall" feature which can be found in the KX Driver section of "all programs" on windows start menu. This will get rid of the new version..... if there are remnants of the old you may have to use Driver Cleaner to find and remove those or do it manually...... which can be a nightmare. Driver cleaner is the recommended tool, but I don't have it and have never used it, so I can't explain it in detail.

What I did when I ran into this was to re-install the old version after un-installing the new (making sure it was the exact same "old version") and then run the uninstall for that version....... Probably not an approved fix, but it did work for me. I then installed the latest version, had to reset global settings once and all was fine after that...... (P4, 3Ghz machine, running windows XP and with two soundblaster cards installed..... both running KX Drivers)

For the EQ, that should be fairly easy from within the DSP window just by removing "timbre" and plugging in the EQ, making sure the hookups (input's and outputs) are the same......... You gotta get the driver working first, so worry about that and then tackle the DSP later.

It seems that a lot of the guys that know all about this driver package don't post much anymore, and as I said, I'm no pro at this myself, but maybe someone else will pop in here and set us both straight on this issue........

Re: Despair and wrath are mingled in my head as a result of upgrading to 3545b

There are some old timers here who swear by version 3534f as being the best for Asio performance. I used 3537 for the longest time with three flavors of Windows, 98se, 2k and XP. Never had a problem. Now I'm on 3538j I think, the last version that supported Windows 2000. I've only got a Live card so I don't need to upgrade and besides, I would also lose all my dsp presets and have to start from scratch with new ProFX etc.

Anyways, maybe you should just stick with the older version if it was working well for you. Upgrading can cause more problems than it's worth it and the new features are often for specific cards which don't apply to everyone. Uninstalling the old version first is also very important and removing all Creative stuff too.

I believe in the old saying, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But I am curious about that 64 bit version. What I would really like is a Linux version, but that's a whole other story.

Re: Despair and wrath are mingled in my head as a result of upgrading to 3545b

Yeah I confirm ,
You Have To do A complete Uninstall ,And Old Shortcut-settings Will Not Work From 3538 to latest version,DEFINETELY.
You have To sign by paper And Recreate them ,If You want to use New version, too many Things Changed.

I used Driver Cleaner If I remember Correctly.
Driver Cleaner HAs a KX "uninstall traces "Included-

To be safe I would:
-Turn Off system restore
-UNINSTALL
-boot in safe Mode
-Driver cleaner(you find OPn driverheaven too that program)-Take care of leftover Traces (reading Infos included Help)
-Install THe version Of Kx You need.
If You want the old one ,you can Copy your old Setting As a backup before To

-Don't remeber if i INstalled KX IN safe Mode Or Full OS,
Maybe i did Both (one time worked In a way ,another time in the other).

So our choice for the version..ut You can't Keep "mismatch files" of ifferent version, that is Sure.
