kX Synth2 not working
Hi! So here's the thing. I am trying to use an old music program, Anvil Studio, and there's a particular MIDI output that I want to you: "kX Synth2 SB0350 10k2 [e000]", but, even though it loads all of the instruments and allows me to playback, there's no sound whatsoever.
The only MIDI outputs that seem to work are Microsoft MIDI Mapper and Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth, which sounds exactly the same as the first. Another thing I was wondering. Is there a MIDI output that will produce the same exact sound as the Synth2 output, and how can I integrate it to work with Anvil Studio and FL Studio? Thanks in advance.

Re: kX Synth2 not working
How can I do that? I see all of the 128 instruments are loaded but I just don't get any sound. Here's and image that I posted just in case it's helpful:

Re: kX Synth2 not working
Use the Soundfont page of kxmixer.

Re: kX Synth2 not working
Hm, interesting, I never thought to look there. Well the page has "<No SoundFonts>" so I'll need to know where I can load/download them. Thanks for the replying

Re: kX Synth2 not working
Your original install CD has the one's that come with the Creative driver. Beyond that, there are many places on the internet where you can download soundfonts.
If you are not familiar with using soundfonts, you should probably start with a soundfont that includes the full GM instrument set, rather than ones that contain single instruments, etc. http://hammersound.com/cgi-bin/soundlink.pl http://www.personalcopy.com/sfonts.htm Last edited by Russ; Aug 13, 2009 at 06:10 PM. |

Re: kX Synth2 not working
Edit: I found it!
Thanks so much, Russ. ![]() wei007, since you're having the same problem, lemme tell you where to find the file. Open up the kX mixer and click on the SoundFonts tab to the left (looks like an "f"). While the SoundBlaster CD is in the drive, click on the plus + button and navigate to your CD-Rom drive > Audio > Common > SFBank > CT4MGM.SF2. That's all there is to it.

Re: kX Synth2 not working
Just search for *.SF2 (they may even still be on your hard drive, probably in the Windows\System32 directory).
The ones that came with the Creative driver were called CT2MGM.SF2 (2MB set) and CT4MGM.SF2 (4 MB set), etc. On my install CD, the 2MB set is located at 'Audio\Drivers\COMMON' and the 4MB set is located at 'Audio\Common\SFBank'. It may not be the same with your CD. Last edited by Russ; Aug 13, 2009 at 06:18 PM. |

Re: kX Synth2 not working
S. Christian Collins Homepage
Here you will find a good General Midi sound font built for Sound Blaster users. It's approx. 20 megs and sounds much better than the Creative supplied ones. There is also one called personal copy which is around 50 megs, also good. Look in the Midi section of this Forum for links to other sites. There are virtually thousand to download and most are free. |

Re: kX Synth2 not working
Thanks, peate. I just loaded the SoundFont and it certainly does sound better.
The reason for my wanting the older SoundFont is because I created songs with those particular sounds on Anvil Studio and now I'm attempting to rewrite them all on FL Studio. Eh, it's only like 100+ songs to remake. :P
