CT4780 + Win7 + v.3541 = game port error message

Hello - this is my first post.

I have the SB Live! Value CT4780 running very nicely on the Windows 7 RC thanks to the v.3541 driver. Only one problem: I am seeing the game port error message at startup ("Error initializing your audio card...")

I tried disabling the game port in Device Manager...I tried uninstalling it...I copied the Windows XP driver [gameenum.sys] to Win 7...nothing works!

My sound is just fine, but it's a pain to have to manually dismiss this error message every time I start Windows 7. Please tell me there is a way to fix this!

Thanks for your help.

Wink Re: CT4780 + Win7 + v.3541 = game port error message

Here's how I solved my problem:

I uninstalled all kx software.

I uninstalled all sound devices from Windows Device Manager. Since Windows 7 doesn't ship with drivers for my sound card, Windows had nothing to install when it detected my sound card [Sound Blaster Live! Value ct4780].

I restarted Windows 7 after each uninstall, which probably wasn't necessary but I did it anyway. Superstition.

I was now ready for a clean install of kx -- this time I installed the 3549 build (which is technically a beta.)

Result: The game port was not installed, so no more game port error messages. I have sound on Windows 7.

There are weirdnesses, for example: According to kx, my "speaker test failed" on all speakers, but I have sound anyway.

To be fair, my only interest in installing kx was to have sound in Windows 7 without having to buy a new sound card. I won't use hardly any of the fancy features, although I may check out some DSP effects. I have sound in Windows 7...I can play music...I can hear video...I'm a satisfied customer.

From Microsoft (I assume it applies to Windows 7 as well):

Q: Are MIDI/Gameports supported under Vista?
A: We've removed support for these types of devices, in favor of USB connected devices.
I do not know if it will work on Windows 7 (x86-32), but if you need the gameport, you can try the following:
Gameport support pack for Vista 32-bit (x86), upda... - Creative Labs

You didn't really read what I wrote, did you?

No problem.

I'm still a satisfied customer. And now I'm off to enjoy some music on Windows 7...thanks to kx!

Good.

Either way (just in case else one interested to get a clue)
- these three questions/issues:
* "no game port"
* "error initializing your audio card..." (btw. it's a kxmixer message - it has nothing to do with gameport)
* "speaker test failed"

are common and well known issues one faces when switching to kX & Vista/7. They were discussed and explained to the death in certain earlier threads (just look through v39..41 "release" & "bug reports" threads (plus bunch of "Vista" and "Windows 7" titled threads)).

Of course I read what you wrote, but other people that are having the same problem may read this thread and need an alternate solution (i.e. they need to use the gameport).

Thanks for your help.

I have the same sound card and what I care about is:
1.What version of your win 7, x86 or x64?
2.How much is your memmory?is it more than 2 GB?
