Multiple CT4830 cards sync

Hello
I'm trying to sync 4 CT4830 cards thru a spdif chain.
I installed kx drivers and asio4all and I'm using adobe audition. I need 4 stereo analog inputs.
Is it the right way?
Sorry for my english.
Thanks

Simone

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

simonech,

Your English is fine.

Assuming your computer can keep all these IRQs straight you should be able to accomplish what you want. I had three cards installed on an older computer using kX and Windows 98SE and the computer got confused with the 3 cards. Let's assume that your newer computer running XP or Vista will keep the 4 cards straight.

You will have 1 host card and 3 client cards:

For the sake of simplicity, we will assume that your are using the same SPDIF output on the AUD_EXT connectors of the client cards, Pins 17 & 18. Connect from each of the 3 cards with an SPDIF cable to:

CLIENT card 1 will go to CD_SPDIF input of the HOST card.
CLIENT card 2 will go to Pins 6 & 7 of the HOST card.
CLIENT card 3 will go to Pins 15 & 16 of the HOST card.

Your 4th stereo pair will come from your line in of the HOST card.

More info here explaining how to set up 3 cards:
A-kX an Introduction

By the way, you could accomplish your 4 inputs with 2 Audigy cards, one of them having an AUD_EXT connector like the SB0090.

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

the "Two Audigy Card" method would probably be a more stable option (less chance of IRQ issues and driver conflict) but DOug's method above should work

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

I use windows xp, and the system is working good, but after 30 seconds of multitrack recording, all the tracks jump like an old vinil.
I'd like to use the 4 cards in the same mode by sync them, but if it isn't possible I'll try as you suggest.
Two audigy cards are good, but cost like an M Audio Delta 1010LT
Many thanks

Simone

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

I connected everything and I made a custom DSP using ProFX, but I can't hear the 3 client signals. Do I have to use shielded cable for the spdif wiring?
Thanks

What version of kX are you using?

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

Kx version 3541 and ProFx 308_38L.
I have signals on the client cards, but nothing arrives in the host digital inputs.
I used single wires without shield.
Any suggestion?
Thanks

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

I believe that shielded or twisted pairs are preferable to protect from interference but using unshielded single wires won't stop a signal.

Let's assume that your first client card is coming into the CD_SPDIF connector of the Host card. not prevent the setup from working entirely.

1. Concentrate first on getting one Client card to work with the Host card.
2. Let's assume that your first client card is coming into the CD_SPDIF connector of the Host card.
3. Make sure that polarity is correct. Ground of the Client card should come from pin 17 and go into the left CD_SPDIF connector.
4. I generally hook up the tone generator on the client card, in place of the ADC plugin when I am trying to figure out the setup.
5. With the steady tone coming in you can switch the source around in the Host until you can see activity in MX6.
6. Make sure that you have the input in MX6 in the Host card enabled!

Also I remember reading posts that make me believe that every Input / Output is not enabled on every card . All CT4830s are not created equal!

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

Well, host and two clients works!
I uninstalled all creative drivers, I exchanged the cards and reinstalled everythings.
Now the last problem. The client connected at pins 5 and 6 of the host, doesn't work. I'll try to exchange that card with another soon.
Bye

Excellent. Any trouble with IRQs shifting around yet?

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

I tryed spdif inputs at pins 5 and 6 in all my CT4830, but no one works. Those inputs are disable. I'll try to record something with my 6 inputs.
Thank you

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

I'm understanding the power of the system, and I like it very much!
Now I like the two audigy solution too.
Thank you everybody for your work and your support.
Can somebody tell me a good plugin for vocal reverb?
Bye

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

Are you talking about a VST in your audio recording software or a plug-in in the kX DSP?

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

I often use VSTs in my recording software for reverb effects so I am not the best one to answer this. I guess that I would just try out the APS->Everb, EFX Reverbstation, Reverb Lite and see which one you like.

Maybe someone else has stronger opinions about kX reverb plugins.

Re: Multiple CT4830 cards sync

There is also the 'Reverb R' plugin which is part of the UFX pack.
