use stereo line in as mono balanced input

I just had an idea.
Would it be possible to use stereo line in as a mono balanced input by feeding a balanced output into a stereo input using left and right for the two phases and run one of the channels through a phase plugin and then mix both channels in a mono mixer plugin?
Does the phase plugin or the mono mixer cause any delay?

oops, I just found a thread with the exact same subject. Although the delay question wasn´t answered there.

No, neither plugin adds any delay.

There was one where someone suggested to use the DSP to create a balanced signal for an analog output.

and I thought: why not just use a DI Box. I found the idea of having balanced input much more useful. But that has also been discussed already:

I think its worth a try
