Search the forum... This has been answered many times. And yes, MIC will work fine if you configure it right...

Check you audio mixer....see if the volume is up and that the mic is muted that way it wont loop....and then change to the recording audio mixer and make sure your microphone is unmuted. Then you should have sound. and you should be able to talk trough it.

I´m no expert. But why you have AC97 ins/outs slider down?
I have mine up.
In mixer I have:

Ins/outs - AC97 slider all up

Rec - AC97 slider all down, muted

AC97 - everything muted. mic selected.

Works fine recording in Cubase. (but you should use line-in with a pre-amp if you want better quallity.)

Maybe you need Rec sliders up too, unmuted. I really don´t understand the mixer! It just works this way for me.
I use ASIO inputs in Cubase. Maybe that´s why I don´t need to have anything selected in Rec?
Anyways, good luck!
