Strange issue in Windows 7 64-bit

I've just installed kX 3550 in Windows 7 64-bit (the driver is, of course, the x64 version), but now a strange thing happens: the default controller is "Wave Out 6/7" and the sound comes always from the center speaker. When changing the default device to "Master Mixer" then the sound comes from the front speakers, as it should, but then I realized that for some reason now those speakers are mapped in the DSP as "[8002] nw" and "[8003] ne" (i.e: the rear speakers) even if sound comes from the front ones.

Before you suggest it, the "Swap front and rear" mode doesn't have anything to do with it. It's turned off (and the speakers connected without swapping). If I disconnect "[8000] stereo_l" and "[8001] stereo_r", the stereo sound is still working!

Because of that, the "5.1 - Movie Mode" of the "Surrounder+" doesn't work. As odd as it sounds, I have to connect "[8002] nw" and "[8003] ne" (rear outputs) to "[4000] in_L" and "[4001] in_R" (front inputs) in the DSP for it to work right (to get 5.1 surround sound from stereo). Plus real 5.1 applications don't work properly (only front speakers are used and in PowerDVD the 5.1 speakers option in the "Audio" tab is missing!).

All of that does NOT happen in Windows XP, which I have in another partition in the same computer, so it's not a hardware problem.

Also, sometimes I get some annoying clicking noises not present in Windows XP. There must be something wrong with the kX driver or Windows 7 itself.

Finally the Wave and MIDI sliders are "hidden" in the first page of the mixer (I can only see the master one). This doesn't happen in Windows XP (there the three sliders, Master, Wave and MIDI, do appear).

Why does the kX driver behave differently in Win7x64 than in WinXP with the same hardware?

I don't have Win7 64bit myself, but try SPDIF/AC3 as default output device in Windows audio panel...... see if it helps. It does in 32bit.

I guess the sliders went away in vista and it's not a problem.

I'm also using 3550 in Win 7 x64 and the missing sliders and clicking noise in Master Mixer are known issues (the current solution to the latter is to route audio to Wave 2/3 instead).

Your other routing problem seems unique however, I haven't encountered it and I haven't seen anyone else report it. It may help for you to post your configuration.

Well, my computer is pretty standard. Plus, I doubt system specs can affect the behaviour of the drivers, but who knows...

- Motherboard: AsRock ALiveNFG6-VSTA
- Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.21 GHz)
- RAM: 2 GB
- Sound card: Audigy Platinum (SB0090 10k2 [dc00])
- OS: Windows 7 64-bit

I was using integrated VGA for display, but today I've installed a new ATI graphics card and, believe it or not, the "inverted inputs in DSP" issue has disappeared! I suppose it's just a coincidence, since I can't see how can a graphics card or its drivers affect the audio card or the kX drivers.

However, I still can't select 5.1 speakers in PowerDVD, which I can do in WinXP. Something is still wrong.

Hi, thanks for posting this. Had to do the same to get proper upmix and bass redirection. Native 5.1 seems to be working for me with this, too. I'm using VLC though.

Audigy2ZS on Win7 64bit.
