Problem after upgrading to Windows 7

Hi everybody and thank you so much in advance.

After so much hesitation, I decided to move from Windows XP to Windows 7 (I like it so far). I've been a long time user of the Kx drivers for my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum sound card and, after installing the latest version, I'm facing a problem: I have a 4.1 speaker system and, no matter what preset I use, I can't get two of the satellite speakers to sound. Only two of them plus the subwoofer can be heard. Besides, when I run the speaker test from the Kx mixer, I get an error message (plus no sound): "Failed to create sound".

Of course, I want my 4.1 system to work at its full potential. I really appreciate your help. Thank you again!

The speaker test not working is a known issue with Win7 (and Vista I believe) so don't worry about that.... it's not you.

For the 4 speaker problem try setting SPDIF/AC3 as default output device in Windows audio panel. (even with analog speakers) Proper choice should be "master mixer", but that tends to produce noise (A windows issue) and SPDIF/AC3 doesn't produce this noise. Give that a try and see if it helps.

Thank you so much for your suggestion! I've just tried it and doesn't work, unfortunately. SPDIF/AC3 is the default output device and "Master Mixer" is the default communications device, but still two muted speakers.

I know you don't wait for such answer but it is always risky to use new Microsoft product, specialy OS before SP1 relase as it always brings a lot of problems and wasting a time.
So it is user's choice: want to get something new, prepare for the long time spent for all things which work on the previous system or you don't wanna experiment for your own money then just wait.

I know that. BTW, I've never wanted to be a beta tester and, as you mention, I've always waited for the first service pack of the current Windows version to try it (although I never installed Vista). I decided to make the big step because my motherboard died and had to replace it with a new one, which implies reformatting the system partition and reinstalling Windows. Since I've read mostly positive reviews about Windows 7 and I have a half-decent machine, I decided to give it a try (and again, I like it a lot so far).

So I think the only solution is waiting for the Kx developers to fix that problem in further releases. I think I'll report this as a bug. Thank you!
