DELL OEM Creative Labs Sound Card, Windows 7 and KX Project
I wasn't sure where to post this, so here it goes.
I have a Dell OEM Sound Blaster Live Card (Creative Labs doesn't make drivers for it). I am unable to use the onboard sound card for some strange reason. My Video Card, a EVGA 9800 GTX+ 512mb, disables the sound on the motherboard. So this sound card is my only current option for sound at this time. I was able to use it fine on Windows XP but I'm having a few problems on Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. I was using the EMU10K2 drivers for XP, but they don't work on 7. So it looks like the KX Project is my only option for drivers. The few problems are that I have to plug the speakers into the orange port on the card and choose WaveOut 6/7 to get any sound. I didn't have to do this with XP, I could use the green port. This wouldn't be a problem, but I think it is giving other problems because of this. Every so often I lose sound. When it should be playing sound, instead I get a split second high pitch squeak out of the speakers and then nothing. I have to shut down all the programs that are using sound then goto the speaker icon next to the clock, bring up the volume bar and click on it for a few seconds until the squeak goes away and I get my sound back. I don't believe there is anything wrong with the sound card as it worked perfectly on XP. Also, I am wanting the ability to record from stereo mix (I want to record what plays out the speakers into a program like Audacity). This worked fine with the EMU10K2 drivers for XP as I was able to use the green port. I'm thinking it has to do with my needing to use the orange port and use WaveOut 6/7 from KX Project to get any sound at all. When I installed KX, I didn't change any settings from the default except in the Windows Contol Panel to use 6/7 as the default output. Someone please help me fix these few problems I am having, I'm at wits end on what to do. Keep in mind I am a computer technician, I fix computers in a small town computer repair shop, so I do know my way around a computer. I know you can record from stereo mix as my laptop is on 7 and recording from it, and I believe there is a way to set up the KX Project to allow such a thing. |

A few things to check....
On the main page of KX mixer, make sure "digital only" output isn't checked. If it is, un check that option. KX defaults to "rear out" mode, the black jack, Use this jack, or un check that on the same KX mixer page and use the green jack. Also, check the speaker config in KX mixer, it should match your actual speakers, 2.1, 4.1, etc, I leave surround on for general use, games etc. In Windows audio panel select SPDIF/AC3 as default output and speaker setup should match the sound card's capability. (5.1 for most Live! cards, early ones may have been 4.1) See if that get's you running.

Re: DELL OEM Creative Labs Sound Card, Windows 7 and KX Project
That fixes it to where I can use the green port. Only time will tell if that fixes the sound going out and getting that high pitched squeak.
I am still having the problem with not being to record off the stereo mix though. Right now I have the KX Recording Mixer set as default device in Windows Sound Control, and have it set as the recording device in Audacity, but still can't record from it. What am I doing wrong with that. Are there settings or connections that need to be made in the KX DSP. I hope not, that thing looks complicated to me, and I work on computers every day. It probably isn't once you get the hang of reading it, but still. Recording Stereo Mix is the last problem I'm having right now. |

Re: DELL OEM Creative Labs Sound Card, Windows 7 and KX Project
Check the recording page and AC97 page. AC97 will probably want to be "stereo mix" for what you are trying to do. Then on recording page unmute AC97 and set volume to 0db. This should work and doesn't get you involved with the dsp.....

Re: DELL OEM Creative Labs Sound Card, Windows 7 and KX Project
I was hoping to get back to you before you had a chance to respond. I got it figured out. I played around in the settings and found what I was doing wrong. Thank you very much for your help. I will post again if I need anything else or are having any other problems.
