Creating Skins
Hi all.
In July of 2003, Chris McCartney published one of the spiffiest skins for kX that I ever saw. I used it until one bad day the kX Driver was updated and to my horror that skin did not work anymore. There were other skin creators who made new skins but their efforts too were thwarted after further updates and we soon ended up with just the default skin as these good folks apparently got fed up with updates that kept breaking their creations. Recently I discovered the ProUI skin, which means it IS possible to create skins. But how long will it be before that one is broken, too? I am interested in recreating that Mackie skin and add one or two of my own, but having compared this skin and others of the same time period with the default skin and the ProUI skin currently available, it appears that making skins has become a much more complex procedure than before. Is there a better text on creating skins than the brief help text on the home site? That text is fine if one wants to replace the aqua skin with one's own images but in essence the format remains the same. While it is mentioned that one can change the layout completely, there is no information available on how to do this. Eugene, Max, where can I get more detailed information on skins and their respective ini files now in use?

Ответ: Creating Skins
I'm not aware of any detailed information beside kX Project -- Skins for kX Mixer (the end of the page). Well, most of the kx-skinning stuff is pretty self-evidend (with a few exceptions) when you get into the default skin files (so creating of a new skin should not be too hard if one is familiar with text and graphics editing).
Some relaited topics (with some extra info maybe): Will Skin Studio Work for Kx Skins? Qns about the skins

Re: Creating Skins
Thanks for your response Max, and for the links.
I found the TsofT text interesting. He made his excellent skins before it became so much more complicated in the later versions of kX. The number of images in his skins and in those of the other skinners is mind-boggling. I will study the stuff and see if I am able to do a skin. If yes I will post it on this forum ![]() Thanks again. C.

Re: Creating Skins
TSOFT, Thanks indeed. Did this conversion require a lot of time?

Re: Creating Skins
It took me about 30 min to figure out what's different in .ini files, and 15 minutes to fix it.
(btw last update was 6 years ago i've forgot my password for this forum too...) Here is another fixed skin for latest kx drivers(Version: 5, 10, 00, 3550) http://rapidshare.com/files/422349121/TS-Skin2_4.zip Maybe i'll create new skin with simple design but larger sliders. TsofT |
